Pretty simple, I understand there's ebay, craigslist, even this sub. Then there's a slew of internet retailers cb750supply, vintagecb750, partzilla etc.

But where are your go to places for certain parts and/or everything?

For instance do you go to partzilla for o-rings, ebay for carbs, cb750supply for oil filters?

In addition where do you go for parts that are discontinued?

& lastly to be specific and detailed as possible, is OEM better for all? some? none? Have some brands reproduced parts better than OEM? etc

Any recommendations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

ive learned an expensive lesson over the years.  OEM stuff is simply better than the rest.
i'll use all those retailers and a few others, but i will buy OEM if its available.

I'll always start by finding the OEM part number on CMSNL.com.  I have my bikes fiche page bookmarked.
then i'll just do an internet search using HONDA followed by the part number i looked up.
I easily find what is available, or not....

+1 on the OE stuff, I pretty much grab a new/nos item if its available. Here are my go to people:

Bill Benton: Owner Operator, Bill's house of Honda funland  ;D. He will have pretty much everything, and a great guy to work with.

JT Marks: Authorized distributor for yamiya, and the best source for finding a ton of discontinued parts as NOS items. His ebay listings will make you bankrupt,  but working directly with him will get you discounts on both OE and yamiya items.

Last resort: Call all Honda dealerships in the area, usually one or two of them will have what you need.

I use Partzilla mostly. Purdy much cheaper than most.

I do the same as flybox1, look it up on the fiche and then start searching for the cheapest to buy from.

I also call the local bike shop to see if they have it first.............course the closest shop to me is like a 45 minute ride away.

If I can get it OEM, I will.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Any examples of what finally made you turn to OEM only?

Also what exactly is "fiche?" I've read it a couple times in this post

When a site like http://www.cb750supply.com/products says:

"Fuel Petcock - Honda CB750 - OEM Ref. # 16950-300-020"

Does that mean it's an OEM part or an aftermarket part that is similar to the OEM part referenced?

Thanks, what about maintenance parts? Oil/air filters? oil o-rings? etc. still OEM? or aftermarket are just fine? Just wondering since something as simple as air filters are almost 3-4x aftermarket.

Buy a K&N air filter.

Haven't seen DavidSilverSpares.com mentioned yet. Great site. I also look at CMSNL for the part numbers then do a google search. Usually it's Partzilla, EBay, or DSS.

OEM>aftermarket. Especially in seals. Aftermarket crank seals didn't have a needed lip to prevent being pushed out. For me, anything that requires the case to be split or motor come out must be OEM if possible. Although Loctite 518 worked beautifully to seal the case halves.

I got filters from Z1 and was happy with their service. I don't drive much so several of each filter will last me for years.

If it's something small and it's getting shipped across the border it's usually cheaper to just get it from my local Honda dealer.

I've been getting OEM oil filters off eBay for about $12 free shipping. Comes with o-rings.

Buy direct from K&N. www.knfilters.com (or .ca if in canada). Select your vehicle.

Holy, is there any reason why the air filter is so expensive? Also do the carbs needs to be readjusted for the K&N air filter in the stock air box?

I believe K&N filters are guaranteed for life. Wash them out by soaking in soapy water, rinse, AIR dry, and apply your favorite filter oil. Good for another 5K to 10K miles.

Sorry first time ever seeing this but applying filter oil? Is this something I would have to buy with the air filter and apply prior to putting it in or just for future maintenance? and is this a thing? like should I have been applying oil to all my air filters or just a Honda thing?

Also just noticed this while browsing one of the recommended sites, is this the oil that you're referring to?
