CB550 Crankcase Dowels/Orifice Selection
« on: August 31, 2016, 11:58:41 AM »
Hey guys!

Easy question here, just wondering if these are the right dowels to use on the crankcase?

I order them from bike bandit and they said these are the ones, but I've seen different ones installed before, ones that actually look like an orifice, not just a dowel.

Thanks

Not sure if you sealed up the top end, but these dowels are wrong. They have to be 12238-323-000.

If it's all sealed up like this, open it back up!

Wow. Definite fail from bike bandit!
Those end holes, unless I'm super confused, carry oil to the valvegear. The lower one (case/barrels) should be the "oil control orifice valve", something like a pilot jet that restricts oil flow to allow enough oil past for valvegear lubrication and restricting it enough to keep main gallery pressure up. The upper one is a tubular plain dowel with an O-ring at the joint.
Using solid ejector pins as shown will have you stopped with a trashed head, cam, and maybe rockers and their shafts - within a few miles of home.
