Topic: CB750K2 Gas tank on a 1977 CB750A

Hello all, Has anyone ever put a CB750K tank on a CB750A if so what modifications where needed and was there any problems. I guess you all are wondering what I'm doing with My 1977  CB750A. Well I am tiring to incorporate all the different CB750s that where made in the 1970's into one bike. Why am I doing this? I really don't know why, maybe have to much time on my hands.  If anyone has any ideas on some parts that might be added please let me know. Don't worry I'm keeping all the original CB750A parts. I'm not sure about the K... but I have run F tanks on autos with good success.

Well, it depends on what year 750K you're talking about. The 77/78 K models were dimensionally the same as the A model tanks, the only difference being that the A tank had the fuel level sending unit for the fuel gauge. If you are looking at a 76 or earlier K tank, then you might ask (or search) about installing an early K tank on a later K frame. I know that it has been done, but I think you end up with a gap between the tank and seat that would have to be addressed (or not).

Thanks for your input guys. I have a question concerning tires and wheels. I am getting ready to buy tires for my CB750A and need to know the widest rear tire I can put on the stock rim? I also have some comstar rims from a 1980 CB750C but can't decide which rims would look best on this project.

I just tried my 76 750K tank onto my 77 750A and it doesnt come anywhere close to fitting. It hits the frame.  It will need some major reconstruction to work.

I forgot that the A frame rises up in the front, so much so that the top end can be removed without taking the engine out of the frame.

More research required.
