Thank you belatedly for the birthday wishes, Don.
Work has been nuts but it's finally starting to slow down and I've made some progress.  I'll be posting pictures in the next day or two.

Essentially, on the 500, I decided to redo the wiring inside the battery box and clean it up.  I'm much more pleased with the overall layout & cleanliness of the set up now.  This week, I'll be finishing up the wiring and cranking the engine.  I still have to work out the proper spacers in the wheels as the ones I'm using now aren't lining everything up properly and there is still a bit of a wobble in the wheels.  Once I do all of that, I'm hoping to get it out on the road for some road testing this weekend or next week at the latest.

On the 550, I purchased another 550 engine yesterday.  I had to drive an hour west of Atlanta out in the country but I bought a complete 550 engine plus carbs and headers for $150.  Based on the engine's serial number, it's a 1974 K0 CB550 engine but I have no idea how many miles are on it, as it had been being used as an engine on a go-kart.  :o

Once I finish the 500, I'm going to get the 550 engine running and do a compression and leakdown test on it to see if it needs a rebuild or not.  At the very least, it needs cleaning up and repainting and the carbs will need to be cleaned.  And I won't be using the headers on this bike, as I plan to buy the entire exhaust setup for this bike which is going to be a keeper.

Maybe the seller was upgrading the go-cart to a Hayabusa 1300cc engine!

It was on Craigslist for $200.  I called him and told him I would give $150 and he accepted.
By the way, what do you need?  I live in Woodstock and have a crap ton of extra 500/550 parts.  You're welcome to come look at what I have.  If I have duplicates and don't need a part, you're welcome to them.

Yeah I don't even want to imagine it with the 550 on it, let alone a Busa.  Apparently, it was producing too much power for the gokart (go figure!) so they took it off and replaced it with a chainsaw motor.

Wow, thanks for that offer. I may take you up on that. I used to live in woodstock, but have lived in blue ridge now the past 7 years or so.

Yeah, Ron.  Monster Garage did a build where they tried to stuff a BUSA engine into a small go-cart vehicle for a little person.  Unfortunately the project failed before it could be ridden.

Well, I think I'm going to get a chance to work on the 550 very soon because I should be finished with the 500 in the near future.  I've been spending time this past week working on cleaning up the wiring on the 500 and the wiring is almost finished.  Now I just need to figure out the spacers on the front wheel so that I can mount the front brakes & fender.  Then I can take this thing out for a spin!

(Of course, I would be much further along on this bike if the weather would stop being so nice.  It's been awesome all this past week and I've literally been out riding the BMW for hours every day.)

Also, regarding the Busa motor, one of the teachers in my MSF class told us, "A Hayabusa is the cheapest motorcycle in the world to buy.  You only end up making one payment on the thing before it kills you!"

I can relate.  What little spare time I've had from work, I have tried to get out and ride my bike (for relaxation!).

Actually it's not.  I got the tank, fender and seat pan painted, plus finally fixed the issue with the spring for the rear brake.  I need to sort out one more issue with one of the wiring circuits and I'll be taking it out for a test ride soon.

However, it is somewhat on 'temporary pause' while I'm in Japan.  I'm here with the family for 11 more days for vacation.  I was 'representing' today, wearing my BentOnRacing t-shirt around Tokyo that I got from Bill Benton.

Way to "represent" BentOnRacing, Ron.  Enjoy the Land of the Rising Sun.

Honestly, we haven't seen that many bikes at all.  We were only in Tokyo for 2 days and we leave tomorrow morning for Kyoto for 4 days, followed by 5 days in Osaka (with a day trip to Hiroshima thrown in).  We come back to Tokyo for 1 1/2 days before flying back out on that Sunday.  After seeing a gazillion shrines and temples, I'm pretty sure Abbey (my young cousin who bought a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 as her first bike recently) and myself are going to be fed up with sightseeing and ready to look at some bikes.

And Steve, we definitely haven't seen any of those biker chicks.  Of course, we're staying in Ritz-Carlton hotels for the entire trip so that may be influencing why we haven't seen any.  We did see 2 dudes on go-karts racing through the traffic, dressed up Mario and Luigi though.  They were out of sight before I could get my phone up to get a photo or video though.  :-\

Kyoto is probably my favorite Japanese city.  My mother lived in Kobe and Hiroshima (bomb survivor).
