I bought her as a rolling frame, she was made in March 1973, 3 years after Dorothy.  It included wheels, fuel tank, oil tank, dash.  Got all that, but I really wanted the 18" rear wheel for Dorothy.  It came with OK tires, I used them up too, LOL.

Two years later, on local CL I found the engine, wheels and big box of little items, harness, fork, triple tree.  The guy bought it for the frame to build an electrical motorcycle, anyway I was happy with the deal, got all of it for 200 bucks.

You can tell, I knew nothing about F3 heads back than :).  This head really needed new guides, valves, the  whole nine yards.  I outsourced only one thing - blasting of the head before taking guides out.

I installed guides:

Cut seats:

One ring was broken, new set installed, honed cylinders:

Timed it 4.5 degrees ahead of the factory position:

Bushings for the swingarm:

The tank had a leak, soldered it up and spent a lot of time sanding, filling sanding; what I learned the time I worked in a body shop  came handy:

Took the harness down to wires, sorted out what I dont need -  running lights, safety module - and used two VW relays from my stash for the headlight:

The handlebars controls I wanted wire inside handlebars, F3 is not built for that, hence holes in the top bracket were needed:

I polished MC and the dashboard, it turned out OK, the cast pieces were not that clean to start with, but the angle of the F bracket and K dash made for some challenges as far as the ignition key shape:

There are parts of the project I am proud of, like the rear brake; the master cylinder is from 900RR Honda, brake pedal is modified K and it works:

Oil pressure gauge adapter:

Stems for turn signals, I bought NOS lights on ebay and made stems out of 304 steel bar:

And than there are brain farts. stuff I don't want anybody to see;  I mean what kind of an idiot installs the muffler with the seam up?

And if you think that was pretty stupid, how about double chain link?  The result of wrenching with my good buddy Chambourcin:

I could rant forever, but I think this is plenty, check out my build thread for more details.

The wife was looking over my shoulder as I was reviewing this thread. The only thing she noticed was "A Vermonter built a bike! Vote for that one!!!" Obviously, she is from Vermont. When I explained the whole out-of-state registration deal, she scowled most heavily and strode away muttering something about us Southern boys taking advantage of "those nice Vermonters..."

So I'm damned if i do, damned if i don't- Maybe I should recuse myself this month is interest of marital survival?

LOL, the first thing my wife asked me when we pulled the bike out of the basement..."Why in the world does it have a Vermont plate on it"?

I told her we sent in tag applications to all 50 states and Vermont was the first one to respond back so we went with them!
