handlebar switch question - 69-70 CB750
« on: May 17, 2015, 10:35:54 AM »
Wiring up a 70 CB750.   Came with new handlebar switches and a harness (both for 69-70) from parts-n-more

Question - On the RH handlebar switch, I have a YELLOW wire and a YELLOW/WHITE wire from the switch.  All others appear correct. There is no connection coming out of the main harness in the headlight bucket that is YELLOW or YELLOW/WHITE.

Any ideas ?   Typically, YELLOW is one of the points connection and comes out of the main harness.  YELLOW/WHITE doesn't show up on any of my wiring diagrams.

Was hoping to fire this beast tomorrow after work and those 2 extra wires have me scratching my head.

Another note:  there is no continuity from the YELLOW wire that comes out of the main harness (in the bucket) and the yellow wire that comes out of the main harness at the coils.

Here's a link to the actual switch:  http://www.partsnmore.com/parts/honda/cb750k/?filters[fitting]=custom&filters[year]=1969

Switch has 9 wires.  My diagram, and the other old switches I have shows 7 total wires:

Blue:  high beam
White: low beam
Brown/white: speedo lights
Black: power to ignition switch
Black: power to kill switch
Black/white to coils
red/yellow:  starter buttom

yellow:  ????
yellow/white  ????

Any ideas what those extra 2 wires are for ?

They could be unused wires.  Do you have a test light?  It make this job easier.  As a rule of thumb anything colored usually has current.  Try everything to get that test light to come on.  If it does not come on chances are it is for an overseas model or police.

It is does not light up after hitting ever darn switch, button, horn, starter, park etc.. then tape off and don't worry about it.

I tried using a 74 on my k1 and every time I hit high beam I blow a fuse.  Ordered the correct switches.

Can you take a picture of the insides of the switch assembly?
I would like to know as well.

I have the switch mounted currently.  As of now, my plan is to drop a battery in there are see what happens.  I'll tape off the yellow and yellow/white wires.
If something doesn't work, I'll see what I can find out.  I have an email inquiry to parts-n-more to see if they know anything regarding that particular switch.

If I take the thing off, I'll snap a photo of the inside.
