Akront Rim Drilling Pattern
« on: May 17, 2015, 01:29:21 PM »
OK, here's a tough one...

I just bought these nice Akront rims on eBay, and they are winging their way to me now.

I took a chance on them as they are the perfect size for my 1976 CB750K, but I know they were originally drilled and laced to a Norton Commando, year unsure, although I believe both front and back brakes were drum type.

Question: Is the spoke drilling pattern/angle for Norton Commando hubs the same as for a Honda CB750K?

Worst case? I'll make a Norton fan happy.

I looked at those and liked them, but he doesn't have that same size in stock now... I asked.

Nice find!

Nice find!

I asked to pre-order and he said not too many people asking him.  I guess he sells out the second he gets them.  It might be easier to get a set of Lesters than to get a set of these.

They are very light and well constructed.  Little to no weld seem.  And the finish is very nice too.

As far a drill pattern I think those types of rims work on many vintage bikes provided the dimple for the nipple is the correct size.  I had to go with .28" nipple from Buchannan's and it fits perfectly no rim drilling for me.

Will have to drill the rim to accommodate beefier spokes, but I knew that when I ordered.  Now just to to decide if I want to go rear disk or drum.
