Progress on these projects.
I replaced the head on the scooter a couple weeks ago and got it to start. But the carb butterfly was stuck, so I couldn't give it any throttle. I ran out of time that day so back in the storage garage it went.
Yesterday I pulled it out again, removed the carb and have it a good spray with carb cleaner and worked the butterfly open and closed a few times until it opened and closed smoothly. Reinstalled the carb and hooked up all the tubes (there are at least 5 different hoses attached to the carb and manifold. Emissions control, what fun). Once hit the started and it fired right up. Some additional fiddling and it idles beautifully and I was able to take it for a ride around the block. The first time it's run and been ridden since 2009.
What an odd riding experience, from the position with your feet in front of you on the floorboards to the kind of twitchy steering from the tiny front tire. It's fairly quick though. Decent off the line acceleration for the first 10mph our so and I got it up to over 50mph hauling my 235 pounds. I went ahead and reinstalled much of the bodywork I had removed. The headlight lens got broken while in storage and I broke the plastic arm that holds the seat pivot. So I need to fix those. Then I need to decide if I want to paint the old body work the PO painted black or install the factory blue stuff I bought last year. I am leaning towards a rattle can repaint because I don't think it will make a real difference in the value and then I will just resell the rear fenders I bought.
I also pulled out the Harley and took a bunch of pictures. It goes up on CraigsList tonight. I had toyed with making it a runner, but I just don't have the time and my sister wants me to thin the herd of bikes taking up space in her garage.
