750 K7 - K2 swing arm differences
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:42:17 AM »
My k2 currently has what I believe to be a   k7 swing arm and rear wheel assembly fitted. When I purchased the bike it came with a spare k2 swing arm that was freshly powder coated (the one fitted is just rattle canned) so I can see that I will need different adjusters when I refit the k2 swing arm but I was wondering if that was all I will need? Are there any other differences?

Are you sure its a K8 swingarm and rear wheel? The k8 rear wheel assembly is 10mm wider than the K model and has some different spacers, so if you have an early K engine and a K8 rear assembly your chain would be out of alignment 10mm unless you are using the early K model sprocket carrier, also the K8 swingarm is wider and longer, K8 rear shock mounts on the frame are also wider. What is your engine, K2 or K8..? The K8 engine has a 10 mm wider output shaft at the gearbox, hence the wider wheel assembly..

It's a k2 engine, I'm pretty sure he must have fitted the k2 carrier to make it fit. the swing arm currently fitted has groves that the adjuster tab slides into whereas the swing arm not fitted has adjuster tabs that bolt in (you can see these in the attached pic above).

McBain,

Not that this means much, but the Swingarm Pivot Bolt is definitely a K6-K8 style bolt.
There are no Zerk Fittings in it from the picture you posted.
The only way I know of to tell about the other parts is to take the Swingarm Pivot Bolt out and look at the Collar.
If the Collar has Spiral Cut grooves and Lube holes an inch or so in from the ends, then the collar is an older style K0-K5 collar.

The pivot point of both swingarms (Old and New Style) is the same.  Frame width at that point is the same.
If you look at this post http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=29369 you'll see why I said this.
(And since i'm working on my swingarm right now, I figure this is correct.  :)  )

Hope this helps at least a little.

Thanks for the heads up Charlie, I'll pull the swing arm out this week and check it out. Looks like I will have to chase up the older style bolt/zerk fitting,  cheers

McBain,

Glad I could help.

Also, look at the collar, bushings and the end caps as well if you're going to go to a complete K2 setup.
