Old reader just resisted
« on: October 18, 2006, 11:39:10 PM »
Hi to all .I have been reading this forum for about a year now. Some of you may remember Terry snapped up some stainless screws that were sent to me. (I received Hex and asked for Phillips) Anyway when Terry was here drinking all my beer when he suggested I have a look at this site.
I have a K0 built about 10/69 (Was Gold) It was imported into Oz 2nd hand from Japan   The Japanese model had a red light mounted in the top tree between the tacho and Speedo. I think this was a speed warning light. (was the first thing that was removed) The Speedo is in km not mph.
I bought in 1972 and rode it for about 4 years. During this time had a bad stack. This called for a rebuilt, new o/s pistons rings Double disc up front plus all the repairs. All of the cover and tank were replaced with k1 bits. Then in 76 I decided to put an 812-Yoshi kit in it so pulled it down bought all the bits (pistons R/T cam valve spring alloy retainers h/duty clutch and springs etc) then along came the first of 4 kids.
Nearly 30 years later and only the youngest (19y) still living with us. Have decided to put this old bike back together (original as possible)
Have spent the last year collecting parts and just about have all them now plus a few extra  (78F2 that could not resist)
That bring me to why I finally register. Over the last few weeks have seen 2 posts that I may have been able to help with. One was someone wanted some stuff from Hellweg who I worked for a while and the other is the pin that hold the Tank cap on. If anyone is still looking try http://www.yamiya750.com/tank%20english.html and now I need some help. Two items have come up on ebay so emailed the guy and asked if he would send down under he replied Sorry no. So is there anyone in the US who could help me. Sorry for this being so long and thanks for taking the time to read. Stephen

Welcome back. You looking to have them shipped here (U.S.) and then have them reshipped? What sort of parts are we talking about?
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Am looking at the 2 KO side badge on ebay and yes to shipping. The only problem is This guy may not allow international  bids. Of course I will cover the cost.

Have you considered repro badges? I purchased a pair and they look very good and a damn sight cheaper than the real things can go on eBay, unless originality is a very high priority for you, you might consider it.

Hi Bob Thanks for the reply
Thought about this for the about a year, looked at a lot of badges (original& repo).  And decided that if I could get a set of good original at a price am happy with will go that way otherwise it will have to be Repo All the other parts I have are original KO except the rims and Exhaust (Have a new set of HM300) My Old bike is all sandcast parts except the cases S/N 750E 10132*** & the frame is 111 less. So even the frame and motor match. It was gold and I am sure the stripe on the tank was also gold. This reconstruction will probably cost more than the bike is worth and I accept that.

Thanks also to jtd & kghost for the offers of help

Stevek0,

If you need to get inside the Yoshi 812, the rings are the 68 & up 350 stock rings. Been there, done that, have it.

The Yoshi piston, rings, pins, c/clips and cam
I have are all still sitting in the boxes they came in. I stripped this motor down to fit them. Never did get the time. The pistons etc that are in it are original Honda (2 oversize)and only done about 3000miles so think may reuse these.

If it doesn't cost at least twice the worth, you're using too much duct tape.

"Still in the box" SWEEET! Which cam - Daytona or Road Special ? Don't let Terry beg for these! Not likely another set still new like yours in existence. If he tries to swap you an oil cooler for these tell him to piss off.  ::)

Terry would have to make coolers for a year and it still wouldn't be enough ;D
The cam is Road and track. When I bought these parts I looked at the specks. Yoshimura claimed that the Daytona cam was a 25%and R/T 15%boost over stock. Was not sure that the extra 25% power gain was a good idea as was  nothing out of the norm for me to play catch me if you can with the cops. Arrrr to be 20 again. :( Also use to run a 3/4 chain as the standard didn't lastat all.

Ha ha, just saw this Steve, you can keep your yoshi stuff mate, I sold 100 - odd coolers last year @ $149.00 US (or $200.00 AUD) so if you think anyone's gonna pay you $15K US for that, you're dreaming! I'd give you a buck for that hat though! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

What's the difference between K0 tank badges and K1/K2 tank badges? I've actually got a brand new pair of OEM K1/K2 tank badges sitting in a box in my garage?

Geez, I might have to put them on Ebay, let me see, how would I frame the auction? I know, "RARE SANDCAST K0 tank badges" should do it? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. :)

It's the dimples. K0 dimples are different :/
Dimples inbetween the letters, smooth inside the raised portion of letters.
At least I think, I'm at work, so can't check. May be the opposite.

Ok mate, thanks for that, I'll check my parts book when I get home, it covers the K0 - K4, from memory. Cheers, Terry. :)

Hi Steven,

Get parts from www.davidsilverspares.com      www.cmsnl.com    or   www.zpower.com.au

I am in the same spot as you regarding sellers not shipping out of the USA.

I want this tacho real bad

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290072974237&rd=1,1

Vendor wants a USA Postal money order or cash and I didn't like to ask anyone here although if anyone is willing to help me out with getting the deal done if I won would be greatly appreciated. Would involve a bit of mucking around. I could throw in a vintage enamel Honda badge to sweeten things up if I win.

This is a K0 or Sandcast set of tank emblems that I won. They were listed as '71 but they aren't. I received them in the post today and they are the real deal. Repros off CMSl, when you could get them, were 100 Euros. Now getting towards Unobtanium. DSS no longer have them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160068646724&rd=1,1

All I have to do is hand paint the black back on, that shouldn't be too difficult....

The more I do to my bike the more I want to do to it...Has anyone found a cure for this yet, it's starting to hurt...... :o

Hi Toycollector
I too was watching those tank badges. I set up a snipe on them for $98 but had a think about it and decide that seeing as allready have 2 sets and someone may need then to put another sohc4 back on the road decided to removed the snipe. They tell me the trick when repainting these badges is to thin the paint so it runs and fills in by it self. Just may have to give then a few coats.
There are still some good deals to have on E-bay. just the other day a sandcast swingarm (190070930107)  went for $1.00 I did not want it but was watching it to see how much it went for It was listed as a 74 swingarm.
Now way am I going to part with my yoshi kit would like to get hold of another sohc4 to set it up in and go, kick Terry on his power cruisers a#s  :D :D :D Also have a 4to1to2 Dunstall. I now have 2 k0 one 10/69 and a 1/70 not to mention the 78F2 All are in bits. It will be another 12months b4 I have time to start to reassemble them.

Terry If you want to see what a K0 tank badge looks like I will show you mine If you show me yours HAHAHA We have finalley started to shift into the new joint still have not concreted the shed ("My workshop" L60xW30xH10ft)
