I'm going to be making some rearsets for my CB5500 ( I have CNC mill, knee mill, lathes,welders, etc at my home shop) and would like to see some pictures of designs that other have used. I'm not looking to copy what others have done, just get soem ideas.

The style that utilize the Dennis Kirk clamp around the frame tube doesn't appeal to me. I have been leaning more towards welding mount tabs to the frame and going from there.

If anyone can help with some pics, I'd really appreciate it!

don't have any pics, but I plan on using CBR rear sets in the future with the dennis kirk type brackets for now. You should use that type setup but just weld brackets to the frame. be a nice clean look with modern parts.

Google or search here for RAASK CB550 and I'm sure something will pop up - they made/make custom brackets that bolt onto the 550 - nothing around the frame - just using existing engine mounts etc.

I bought these off of ebay awhile back, they've got "John Tickle" imprinted on the rubber. They came with some godawful mounting plates, but I just used my rear passenger peg mounts (75 cb550k). Doesn't look like they'd be all that hard to fabricate...

As tintin said - Raask sets are simple bolt-on jobs. See pics below.

Were the 'godawful mounting plates' specifc to the 550? If you have them, and want to make a few bucks from them, I'd be interested in buying them. I have Tarozzi rearset pegs etc. but no mounting brackets. The 550F's rear footpegs are a little too far back and high for my tastes as a mounting position.

The mounting plates were 550 specific, I ran them for awhile before I figured out the diameter of the stock pegs was the same as the bolts for the rearsets. Only problem I see is that they might be specific to early K models, the later F's have different rear peg mounts...I think the far rear hole is for a passenger peg mount, not sure...

That mount is god awful. What were they thinking. Mounting on the rear passenger mount is definetly a good idea aside form that mount.

Exactly what I thought, which is why I went to the rear passenger mount. plus, with adjustable clip ons you can pretty much set up a modern sport bike position...But if anyone still wants them, I'd be willing to part with 'em. They're just taking up space currently.

Assuming a solid set of mounting plates and reusing the footpegs, does anyone know where you can get just the adjustable linkages, and replacement levers for a set of rear sets....??

What is the finish on your frame by the way? Kind of looks chromed, but not 100% sure.

Its polished actually.

. Only took a few weeks. Then clearcoated to avoid rust. The clear was a little tricky to keep on the frame, but it works well enough combined with the oil leakage...

I can easily make the adjustable linkages in any length you might want - just let me know what you need. Same for the levers themselves, very easy to make.

I just bought a hunk of aluminum to make rearset mounts for my 750 f. If you look for cbr style rear sets on ebay don't type rearset in the search box, type in cbr shifter or cbr brake pedal. much less expensive auctions.

I'm making mounting pieces out of six-inch lengths of 3/4 inch squared steel tubing, which a local welding shop will attach to my frame in the area where the passenger footpeg mounting bracket went (I ground them off), and using nighthawk rearsets. with the exception of changing the length of brake and shifter linkage rods, everything else is set to go.

Is it just me or do cafe 75-550's rear sets look alot like the headlight ear mounts??? Not that i'm saying they are, just thinking maybe you could adapt a set to work for mounts.

Here's a set of rearsets that I made for a guy's R1. The shift linkage was made to go through the frame as per the OEM unit. Had to put a kink in the linkage to get it to route properly. I'm not a huge fan of solid poegs, but that's what he wanted. I used the OEM shift and brake levers for this one to keep costs down.

Another R1 using a replacement lever (woodcraft) that the guy already had..

Easiest rearsets ever to make, on my Ducati 996..

What I was looking for in this post was design ideas. I don't think a modern looking rearset would look too out of place on a vintage bike. Anyone agree / disagree?
I found this set on the 'net, but have no idea who makes them, etc. but I do kinda like the design...

I've got a question for Cafe75-550. How does using the rear foot pegs work for a riding position. I used them for my race bike project but I'm not to sure that it's going to work.

Actually, I think the riding position works out pretty well, very similar to a modern sportbike, just with less rake on the bike. I have adjustable telefix clip-ons though which allows me to set the riding position better. I have spent about 3 hours on the bike in one go without too many issues, but for the most part I don't do long rides. Below is a pic to show what I'm talking about, keep in mind I'm 5'8" too, so if you're 6'4" this may not work for you...

Those red rearsets are definately made by Kevin(ttr400) out of South Afirca..........he makes some great parts!! Check out his website.

By the way....have you started hammering out an alloy tank???

I PM'd you on Ton Up - I'm just gonna go with one of yours if you can make it fit the CB550. I can drop off the stock tank to you if you need it for tunnel diemnsions, etc. I just don't have the time to make one as I want to get this project done asap.
