cleaning inside of the cases... how to??

So, I'm busy doing a head rebuild on my F2.
Won't touch the lowered end (has been opened before and working good/not leaking).
But there is some "debris" inside the cases. So aluminum parts etc.
So I really want to have it spotless before bolting is all back together without opening them up..

also cleaned the holes with a tap and two of them end up in the cases (is that normal by the way?)
but some alu parts got in the cases that way.

Now what is the best way of washing all the alu parts out of the cases?
Would it be a good idea to fill it with diesel and wash it out or will this damage the engine?

+1 for Kerosene, its less toxic than diesel too... ;)

Kerosene and diesel are chemically very similar.  The molecular weight of kerosene is lower, indicating a higher degree of refinement, but either will work very well as an engine cleaner.

But once you have the engine out, why wouldn't you split the cases?  It's not that difficult.

I have a friend that can not touch diesel any more, after years of working on trucks and having diesel on his hands he is slowly being poisoned by it, wear gloves at all times when using either.... ;)

I have hardly ever worked with diesel and I have developed a sensitivity to it. fumes make me nauseous and i get an allergic type reaction on my skin if i get it on me.

As for kerosene, i keep a spray bottle of it by my work area in the garage, works great for cleaning crud off chrome, cleaning chains, cleaning engine parts. also doesn't seem to harm paint

 When I was driving commercial truck in a different life I once put about 20 gallons or more of kerosene in my truck before I realized my mistake. Freaked out a bit and topped it off the rest of the way with diesel.  Old timer inside laughed and said not to worry as it works also but made me look at the pumps a little more carefully in the future  ::)

If you can't get Kerosene from a station. Hardware stores sell it as heater fuel. A little more expensive though.

bought few liters of diesel, clean as whistle inside now!
most hardware stores don't store heating kerosine here in belgium since it's almost summer...

;)
