Stinkin bars. All this time off wasted on waiting for parts. If I didn't have the time off they'd a been here days ago. I'm thinking of posting a reward for the first guy that shows up with the UPS guy that has my bars.

Know the feeling! I've had several instances where I had to wait longer than expected for the SLOOOWWWW UPS man to arrive! Just about kicked the man in the shin when he finally did arrive! ;D

Just a heads up, you'll need some kind of bar riser to get the drag bars to work on the 650 front end.  The way the brake line comes straight out of the master cylinder, it needs to occupy the same space that is already taken up by the top of the right fork stanchion, at least on my bike (not sure if your master cylinder is any different).

I lucked out that the bar clamps from an old Bultaco that's living in my buddy's basement fit perfectly.  They are now mine on an "indefinite loan". ;D

This is how my setup looks right now.  It'll eventually be cleaned up and some allen bolts will replace the current ones.



By the way, I'm liking this build a lot.  And you're giving me dirty ideas for a seat pan...  Am I REALLY ever going to put that plastic bed liner back in the truck?

Whenever I buy parts out of the states, I refuse to buy through anyone who ships via UPS, I've had nothing but trouble with them.  I always use USPS and and have never had an issue ;D.

Hooray, the UPS guy showed up with the bars ( sorry starsnbars, he said he didn't know anything about a tail light)
Boo, handlebars didn't work. That's what I get for stealing ideas, should have checked with DV2000NJ first.
Put the old bars on rightside up.....HMMMMM maybe a set of superbike bars?
  Oh well, looks like I won't be short on bar choices for the next bike.

Weird that you guys are having such trouble with drag bars, mine fit fine on my '81 650C front end. ??? What exactly is the issue you all are running into?

It seems that the 27 1/2  Drag bars aren't long enough to handle the front brake master cylinder, Air assist forks stick up further than the older non air assist forks that are flush with the top of the upper tree.  Can't give up those forks, can keep trying different bars. I've noticed a few other 650's with clubmans out there  and they have them on upside down and backwards, could do that, master cylinder would be closer to stock position, I think. Got 4 months to decide .

Oh, yeah. I see what you're talking about now. I used to run the stock '80 shorter forks until I "upgraded".I still lowered the clamps on the forks and let the air hose sit above the fuses to keep the low ride height. My drag bars are 28" and I had to let a teensy-tiny little bit of the handgrips stick out from the end to fit the master cylinder. Don't notice it unless you grab the very end of the grip and realize there isn't anything in it! :o It's only 1/4-1/2", if that. Works though! ;D

You should be able to use some bar risers, my local bike shop stocks them for dirt bikes, where riders spend a lot of time standing up.  They fit standard 7/8" bars.
