electronic ignition
« on: May 24, 2015, 07:35:32 PM »
Hey guys,

i'm pretty new to all this tinkering so i have a couple questions. I've been having issues with my points lately, mainly the 2-3 set. I pulled  the plugs and  saw that 1-4 get a healthy spark but  2-3 gets no spark I had both sets changed last season and since then have failed  again pretty  much right off the bat this season. one of the times  i took off the cover to check my points ( when they where failing) i noticed that  some water condensation was on the inside.

should i get a new seal for my cover so no water is getting in?

and Im thinking that this would be a good time to switch to a electronic ignition(i've heard they are more reliable). i was wondering what brand can you guys  recommend and when switching to a electronic ignition do you have to change  the coils at the same time

Thanks in advance

Make sure it's not the coil first. Swap the wires going from the point to the coil and see if the no spark issue follows

Check the coils and go with PAMCO. I had a Dyna crap out on me and their attitude turned me off them. Pete stands behind his product.

Also there is Hondaman's electronic ignition, used by many happy customers:
