THAT MOMENT, when...
« on: May 27, 2015, 08:11:51 PM »
New thread, could be fun, share your follies here. I'll go first, and in truth I could fill this thread singlehandedly.

That moment, when you're just about to start reassembling the carbs you have been slaving over cleaning, when you're sorting through the newly plated parts and see...

The rusty choke shaft you neglected to send with the rest of it, sitting innocently on the tray with the non-ferrous parts.

It was a good reason to get the mini plating setup dusted off, and it will be handy when I need onesies plated anyway.

You buy the Eastwood high dollar inside the header paint, spray the inside the first one of your new 4/4 set. Then you turn it to look in the end. The moment you realize you just poured silver paint all over your shoes and the floor. And pants. And cell phone case. And bike stand.
Boy does it spray out of that hose!
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

The moment you realize your helmet is going back and forth, not because of the buffeting wind...

but because it is a new signal from the passanger indicating speed has gotten uncomfortable for her.  8)

...that moment when you realize you'll have to move the total contents of your garage into the driveway just to find the valve spring retainer that just launched.

This is going back, the moment when some thing goes past your body and head at close to the sound barrier and you remember yes it is a Triumph spring hub followed by the moment of relief when you find you don't have any new holes followed by the oh #$%* moment when where are all those springs crosses your feeble mind.
Only once never ever ever again.

That moment, when you hear that change of pitch as you drive the lower steering head bearing onto the stem, glance over and see the spacer on the bench, which you shortly learn must be installed beneath that bearing.

Another one going back when after the modification is just about done to the 18 cyl radial engine when you realize that yes you've got all the cylinder hold down nuts but you are missing one, one of the PAL nuts (all same as lock nuts) and some one said I thought I heard something go tinkle. Yes of course they need the A/C  P.D.Q. (russian trawler, chinese sub, something mysterious in the water, ufo, etc)

Oh man! I did not think anyone would actually admit to that.

I spent more than a few minutes trying to start my bike only to find out that someone did the "courtesy" of setting the kill switch to off (probably just to eff with me).  :o

Or rebuilding an engine, start it up and have oil coming out from between the cylinders and head...and THEN you noticed the lone oil seal sitting on the bench.

That moment, knowing that eyes are upon you, when you coolly throw your leg over the saddle McQueen style, tip a wink to your admirers as you nonchalantly press the starter and give a blip on the throttle as it roars into life, snick it into first, release the clutch while still playing to the assembled crowd, and falling sideways with the bike between your legs, realising you forgot to remove your disc lock. :-[

Not one of my best moments ;D
