K0 CB750 clutch question
« on: May 29, 2015, 12:57:18 PM »
after searching for a while and only coming across 1 thread that talked about k0 clutch order, im still unclear as to the reinstallation order of the new friction/steel plates. i ordered 7 friction plates and 6 steel plates as cb750supply had listed for 69-78 cb750's, and thats what was in my bike when i took the clutch out. (hard shifts, and no neutral with engine running,  friction plates were all below spec) anyways, i cant for the life of me remember where the "outer clutch ring" goes. i installed the friction and steel plates with a friction first followed by a steel just like any wet clutch would take, ending with a fiber disc. the outer clutch ring doesnt fit anywhere besides on the very end of the basket, but with it there, it seems like it could just fall off, as there is nothing "holding or sandwiching" it in place, and you can just take it off and on with your fingers. ive attached some photos of what im trying to describe, maybe someone can tell me where it goes, if ive got it installed right, or maybe i dont even have the correct new clutch plates as ive read some places that certain K0 models used 6 friction and 6 steel. maybe someone in the past installed the wrong plates for this engine?  any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

engine number is: CB750E-1041453

outer clutch ring:

how i have the outer ring fitted:

.

and the old stack i removed from bike.

yeah, ive seen that while searching for an answer as to where this outer ring goes, but am still uncertain by looking at the picture.  from looking at that diagram, does it look like it goes between the last (closest to outer edge of basket) steel plate and friction plate? i just think it would be odd to have two metal plates touching..  i still dont even know what this stupid outer ring does.  ::)

Looking at my service manual, it shows that metal disc in place as if looking into a bowl, with friction discs on both sides of it.Then a special (1) smaller dia. disc against it. The o.d. of discs A being 151mm, and disc B being 148.5mm.

There is a link at the manuals section here at the forum, in the cb750 section... it shows pretty clearly. At least, I think I know what I'm talking about.
