750 F2 clutch headaches...
« on: May 30, 2015, 01:04:18 PM »
Hey all,

I'm closing in on finishing up my engine, but the clutch is doing my head in.

It's a '78 F2 and I have the double, riveted plate that goes in. Problem is, the last time I saw this all in one piece was well over a year ago and turns out I didn't take photos of this step...

My questions are:
What is the thickness for the washer that sits in the basket and will a normal 25mm circlip hold it in place or is that a special one?
How many plates do I use on this model? The double plate is obviously thicker, but my old plates are all gone, so can't check those.

I don't have the bike here at the moment, I can take pictures on Monday when it comes back from the final fabrication bits.

Thanks!

I have an extra F2 bottom end in the garage with the clutch still in place.

I can take it out and take some pics for you, maybe tomorrow evening

I had a thread a couple years back when i was trying to use the APE clutch kit on my bike.

I cant remember if this was the 'good to go' photo but it might get you on the right track? If memory servers, placement of the double plate didn't matter too much as long as it was surrounded by the friction plates. I think it's goal in life was to quiet down the clutch rattle that the earlier bikes were known for.

This is my stack with an extra steel and friction set:

Hope it helps.

Also, be VERY careful on how the orientation of the star plate is when you start tightening up the springs. Rotate around like you're doing a tire when bolting it down or it'll break...like this:

You CAN do great things...with enough beer.
