First bike wiring harness dilemma
« on: May 29, 2015, 07:18:04 AM »
my first bike a 72 cb750  has me stumped. I didn't look up serial numbers before i started ordering stuff.

Frame is cb750e2030202  that's a 1972 right?
Engine is cb750e2377138 that's a 74 or 75?

My wiring harness is burnt up, ordered one for a 72.  Far as I can tell they swapped harnesses because the ignition switch on min is the square plug and the 72 harness has the round 6 pin plug.  I can get a new key switch, my question is will the 72 harness do the trick or do I need a harness for a 74 or 75 model?

Without taking the new harness out of package its looking like most of the main plugs will work

I don't think the engine cares, I have a 70 with a K4 engine.  A lot of the round plugs were swapped out to make the easier to find square plug switch fit. You may be able to put the new style square plug on where the round one is. I think Vintage connections has them.

That's fine. I don't care to spend $20 on a new switch with round plug, just wondering if the rest will work out before I open this wiring harness

What I was trying to say is yes,  I put a replacement harness on my 70 with a K4 motor. The motor hooked up with no changes.  (motor doesn't care) The harness doesn't include the sub harnesses, like to the gauges or the wires in the handlebars of course because they all are part of the switches. There are a couple of extra wires in the headlight bucket, No worries that's normal. i had a spare wire from my headlight switch but that was the switch being from a 450, There was a black and a green left over. Maybe something striped too, brn/wh?
