My Own Mini SOHC Drag Race Adventure.....
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:21:23 AM »
Not to let the rest of the gang have all of the fun, I too recently found some old drag stuff.
No where near as much, or as cool.  Bug figured some would find it interesting, and I have a few questions about it.

Started talked to an older guy a few weeks ago and he said that he had some old SOHC CB750 stuff from when he used to race.
Said he couldnt remember much about what was still left, but knew he had a special cylinder with RC cast into it, and webers.
That was all I needed to hear!

Grabbed the stuff yesterday.

RC Swing arm.  Seems straight.

Head.  Didnt look to hard at it.  Seems to have HUGE ports and aftermarket retainers.  Need to measure the valves to see what size.  Needs a rebuild for sure.

Weber carbs on an RC manifold.  Almost everything seems to move.

Old school air shifter.  Dont really know if it works, how to test it, or how to use one.

RC Block.

Crank.  Lightened rotor.  Have not checked the journals.

Markings on the cam.  Anyone know anything about these?  I dont really know how to measure cams to get specs either.

This doesnt look stock

73mm Pistons.  Do not look like they were run long.

Failed to get a picture of the near new GoldenRods!

Seems like this must have been on heck of a motor back in the day.
What kind of power/speed would this set up net?

Good for you jaguar.  This new project should keep you way too busy to hold on to that Seeley frame.  I'll come take it off your hands...  LOL.  Seriously, great score.  Some nice vintage RC stuff you got there.  73mm RC Arias pistons and cast block.  Webers, golden rods, RC swingarm.  A solid start toward a proper vintage old school dragbike. 8)

I'll send you an email later today.  I may be able to help...

Looks like Benton is trying to trade you the ARD he recently got from me.   If that's the case, it is a nice one... :)

Gotta love this crowd- its like being on "Lets make a deal".  Lol. Great score on the hipo parts. On the cam, figure out the base circle first, and then measure the lobe, both intake and exhaust.  Subtract the difference and you have the lift. As to duration, no way to measure that without putting it in a motor and doing the math as far as I know.

Still on the fence about what I will do.
Have talked to some people with drag frames.  Would like to build a period drag bike and do some LSR.
But I know I have a few projects on the list in front of that.
