Topic: Wire Guage

Hi

Can anyone advise on the type of wire I should use for my wiring loom.  How do I know the type I should be getting to prevent fires or damage?

I've read a lot about different types and its all a bit much now.  I'm using Lucas 4.7mm connectors to make sure I put the loom together with quality parts and wanted matching / suitable wire to match.

Sorry to be a pain but its all a little french to me...this is what I've gone with and presume its good enough for all other electrics other than the main ground strap, battery to solenoid, and solenoid to starter motor.

I'm spending the time and money on Lucas brass connectors and full new built by myself loom. So I want to get it right and not have to redo it again or cause myself issues in the future.

Looks a treat! Odd, you used the words "get it right" and "Lucas Electronics" in the same thought... Pardon me, but every British car I've ever seen that had horrendous electrical issues was powered by Lucas. 

Yeah, sorry to say, but I was thinking around the same lines.    I'm hoping you haven't purchased any connectors yet, and would like to recommend HITACHI connectors, similar to what's offered on more modern HONDAs

I probably should have asked here before forking out the money I did on the Lucas ones I ordered last night! Live and learn I guess.   Currently got a harness made out of the original cables and a mixer of original connectors I salvaged from the original near burn't loom and cheap eBay ones that I've cobbled together. 

The "Cough" Lucas "Cough" was meant to be the better replacement, once I have more time to work on the loom after working through the last of the jobs on the bike.  I'll have another poke about and see if I can't pick up some other and see what works best.

I could use your recommendations when I complete the rebuild over the winter.  It's kind of a rolling restore this time around. (Well sort of rolling)

They have everything you need, including the correct connectors. I always use them. Go for the thinwall cable.
