Honda CB 500 four gearbox issues
« on: June 01, 2015, 01:25:22 PM »
Hi There - I have a straight up annoying problem after rebuilding my CB 500 four 1977 engine, new Pistons, rings, cam chain, clutch kit, cable, primary chain, valve job the whole shebang. The gearbox won't shift proberly makes quite strong clunky noises and is hard to pull into gear. Clutch is adjustet correctly, pushrod isn't bent, basket is moving freely plates isn't sticking, what the f is my problem. Seems like the gearbox sprockets is misaligned- Beat regards

Could be a lot of things. Did you take the gear clusters apart when you pulled the motor down? If so, cogs put back on the shafts in the wrong order or back to front. Spacers missing or shims in the wrong place. Shift forks bent or missalinged. Shift fork pins missing allowing the forks to move past where they should be.

I think your in for a motor out and split the cases job. :(
