I really like so many things about Paolo's bike, and his fabrication skills.  He doesn't have a tenth of the parts resources we have in the States, but he REALLY makes what he has or can get work.  I'm NOT a huge fan of the "built not bought" mantra (http://www.salzmoto.com/salzmoto-feature/built-not-bought-is-bull#$%*/) because so much is bought.  Engine parts, suspension parts, brakes, etc.  No one is John Britten or Burt Munro -- casting their own pistons, machining mono-block calipers, forging bolts and fasteners, etc.  Most people buy the vast majority of the products they bolt on to customize their bike, and it's a little bit of a snobby way to say I'm better than you.  Nathaniel Salzman wrote the above-mentioned piece right before the Handbuilt Show in Austin, and it was shared by among others then DCC owner Jason Paul Michaels.  That said, I can understand WHY Paolo slapped it on his seat cowl versus the average builder who shouts the creedo -- he adeptly adapts existing parts and does some dynamite fab work too.  I don't know if that warrants a big old decal on your seat cowl, but it does deserve recognition and respect from this community.  Way to go, Paolo.

Oh yeah, that means I second the nomination.

Hey thanks for even taking notice of my project, gentlemen. I really appreciate it, considering the company im in. To me, the cliche'd "built not bought" is patting myself on the back and telling myself, "see, told you you could build it". I stayed away from vintage bikes cause i was scared id bite off more than i could chew...and i did. Despite doubting myself, I jumped in headfirst without knowing what I was in for. But thanks to the great advice and info here, I managed to learn along the way and paid my dues…hence the built not bought.

I think there are much better candidates around but since I respect your expertise and opinion, I won't argue with you and most humbly accept.

Guess some better pictures are due then. Haha

For those of you who didn't catch Paolo's build in his thread, this is what he started with:

Paolo re-built this 550 in the Philippines adapting many parts from other bikes (Enkei Kawasaki wheels, brakes), and fabricating new parts (air box, air/oil separator, seat) to come up with this:

Thank you!  I love this bike and it's a rider.  My wife and I take it out on our "date nights" and I ride it to work almost everyday.  Thanks for the nomination!

I'll take that as an acceptance!

And just to make it legit, I will second that sweet lil 550!

Already legit from yesterday, Stev-O, but another vote of confidence doesn't hurt!!  ;)  I like this bike (it reminds me of my blue 550 but dmonday's has the iconic Sunburst Orange paint and a better 4-1 pipe, integrated taillight/signals and other differences).

Can I also nominate this little beauty...

That new paint took it to the next level.  Seconded!

I'm very happy to accept the nominations! Thanks so much guys! Last night I did some damage to the top end though (as noted in my build thread), so right now she does run but isn't ride-able. Does that eliminate me from BOTM?

Nah. You're fine. You completed a running bike.
