There have been large amounts of studies done on phone use and driving and the results were that most people can't drive with the same concentration level when operating the phone and driving, it got much worse,  texting and face booking while driving was up too 6 times worse than  drunk driving.  car manufacturers are currently working on jamming devices to render phones useless whilst in a car, they will record calls but will not work whilst in the car, you can catch up once stopped. How did we all survive without mobile phones {insert sarcasm}... ::)

A couple things.

First, I have a hard time believing car makers are working on any jamming devices, as they are just offering wi-fi in their cars, and have been offering mobile phone services like OnStar for years.

But then I'd be curious about the difference between talking on a phone, and talking to a passenger.  Aside from the actual operation of the phone(dialing and such) it doesn't seem much different. Certainly it does take up a hand if not using a hands free device, but then so does so many other things we do all the time.

And then I'm old enough to remember the whole CB radio craze in the early 70s. I don't seem to remember hearing of car accidents caused by ratchet jawin' on the CB.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating texting or anything like that whilst driving. But I do believe that there are some who can handle talking and driving simultaneously.  I can do it and maintain my speed and lane without any problems.  Maybe it the biker in me.

And then there are some who can't.

In my experience, most, and I mean most people who operate a motor vehicle can't drive for sh1t, throw a phone into the mix and you have a disaster waiting to happen. You still have to divert your attention off the road to grab or find your phone... ;) Jamming devices have been around for a while, In most western countries there are large penalities for using phones while driving, jamming phone signals in cars will happen, I don't know when but it will...

I've mentioned this before, in a different context, and yes, there are many people who should never be allowed behind the wheel, but it's human nature to only remember the negative.  And this group has experienced this a fair amount.  How many times have you mentioned that you ride a bike in a room of non riders? Every now and then another rider will pipe up and you will have found a new friend to ride with. But mostly you will hear the horror stories of how a friend or family was maimed or killed on a bike, or a rant on how those "damn bikers whizz by me in traffic".  They'll never remember seeing me, the guy who rides sensibly for almost 40 years without a life threatening accident or acting the fool in traffic.

And I believe the same thing applies here. I'm sure there are many people who successfully pull off talking and driving without pissing off others in traffic. I'm not saying I've never been flipped off in traffic, but it's not because I'm on the phone. It usually happens when some person tries to do something stoopid, and I'll do what I can to not allow it to happen. Usually it's that guy who thinks he doesn't have to wait in line and tries to cut in.  I refer to them as people who failed kindergarten.

I flipped the guy some $$ for his medical bills. There is a link on the vid.

The guy probably didn't need to say get off the "F'ing" phone but still I hope the BMW guy gets some serious jail time. Makes me want a tail cam as well as a dash cam.

Yeah, the Eff part of the get off your phone did not help matters. He's lucky he didn't get shot.

Seriously..!!!, what a bunch of soft cocks you guys must be if you can't handle a swear word from someone worried about being run down by a moron on a phone, the clown in the BMW should have had that phone jammed where the sun doesn't shine, not to mention some fist induced eye make up... ::)

People on both coasts are mostly lunatics behind the wheel besides Stan. Even here in Doodah Land I get more reserved these days if someone cuts me off or almost causes an accident. You don't know when someone may be packing heat here and are unreasonable creatures. I just usually honk my horn and leave it at that, I don't wish to become another statistic.

There's letting people know that they are doing something they shouldn't be and then there is escalating a situation. If a stranger came up to me and said, "F You, do what I say" that's just not going to go over well with me. If he asked me to not do something because of a good reason then i will react a whole lot different. That's just human nature.

I've 'asked' three people in the past month to please, put down their cell phones and all of them responded in kind. One girl thought I was coming on to her until I asked her to not text and drive. Sure we can all get pissed off at other people but they have to right to be pissed off right back. It took me 53 years to figure out you get a lot more positive response from being courteous to people then the alternative. Haven't had to fight my way out of a situation in a long time!  :D

Besides retro, a lot of people carry guns around here. I don't. Not worth getting shot over. Or as in the video getting run over.

Unfortunately in SoCal, if you ask someone not to text and drive (even politely), they will usually tell you to F off -- because they are superhuman and are above any mere traffic laws unless you are wearing a police uniform.

That said, if you ask someone not to text and drive and add a good old F bomb, it will not be received well (with polite compliance).   I understand the sentiment and I've wanted to do it myself, but it's just not a good idea to add the F into the equation here.  People feel more defensive about getting the F bomb than dealing with the conduct complained of.

That said, telling someone not to put down their Fing phone or stop Fing texting and driving DOES NOT justify clipping them and knocking them off their bike.  I'm surprised that the prick in the BMW risked damage to his car to knock off the motorcyclist.  That cager deserves some stiff criminal penalties and a foot up his a$$.  And I drive a bloody BMW!

Just last week, a 26 year old woman ran into the back of a Ducati driver and then ran him over (killing him) in San Diego.  The motorcyclist was an active duty Navy serviceman.  There is an open issue of what transpired between the two to escalate the tension into killing the motorcyclist.  The mother of the 26 year old claimed there was NO WAY her innocent daughter could have done what she was being accused of.  She will likely face prosecution for second degree murder and vehicular manslaughter -- deservedly so.

I've seen motorcyclists kick and punch cars or clip off mirrors in SoCal, because a car got too close to them.  Is that enough to kills someone or knock them off their motorcycle? It shouldn't be, but people let their emotions get the best of them.

You see , thats bullsh1t Duo, he never cursed the guy what so ever, he cursed the fcuking phone, get it now !!, so the soft cock clown got all butt hurt and ran him off the road, if you think for one second thats acceptable behavior given EXACTLY what happened then you lot have been conditioned to overreaction and violence. Watch the video once again mate, the motorcyclist was in NO WAY threatening at all... Human nature my ass, more like a fcukwit with an attitude problem...

How you approach these problems with cagers is part of the problem, the other is much larger: Most of the people here in America's major metro areas believe that they are entitled to do what they want. Anyone (you, me, police, fire, crossing guards, anyone) telling them that they are not allowed to do something, results in those entitled people loosing their sh!t, because they are entitled to be that way.

I ride every day, and I'll see things 10+ times a day that would piss me off - if I let it.  It is obvious you can't text and drive safely at the same time.  The ones that say they can are just demonstrating how oblivious they are.  You on your bike cannot win against a self-entitled jerk in a car.  You cannot change that person's behavior by lecturing them at the roadside.  You have to make up your mind what you want.  Do you want to tell the jerk what an idiot they are, or do you want to stay in one piece?  The world is full of self-entitled idiots and I can't change even one's behavior by anything I say, no matter how many F words I include.  So I relax about it, watch out for them, and go on my way.

What state did this happen in? I ask because someone could have 'dropped a dime' on the guy texting in the car and have a policeman be notified of it if it was against the law in that state.

The guy on the bike was , and here's that term again, lane splitting up thru traffic. That could've set Mr. BMW off,
as some don't understand when they see it. And he might also be one of those who HATE bikes, for no better reason than "just because". (we all have seen these types before., correct?)....Then, the biker guy cusses at the guy in a reprimanding way. It could've been seen as "who's the bigger jerk", and this is all based on assumptions up to this point, but the idiot in the car brought things to a whole new level of stupid/crazy. Some people are wound up way too tight these days, this much I know and understand, and its HARD to not get sucked into it. I sympathize with the guy on the bike. I hate the arrogant lowlife in the car. And I hope he gets a healthy dose of what's coming to him. But not being involved, I have to ask myself what would have happened if nobody said or did anything and left when the light changed? Or, was what happened worth it just to get a point across? It sure shows how far one crazy will go.

Nothing.

Or, was what happened worth it just to get a point across?

Not even a little bit.

I am not blaming the rider any more for what happened than I would blame a robbery victim for walking down a dark alley with 100 dollar bills sticking out of his pockets and getting a knife between his ribs.  But actions have consequences and so do foolish choices.  We have to use our heads.

Just yesterday while driving from Florida to Virginia on I-95, I looked over to my left and there was a woman in a brand new Cadillac doing65 mph with her face up next to her rearview mirror putting on her eyeliner.

I looked away for a couple seconds to continue shaving and when I looked back, she was halfway over in my lane, still working on that makeup. As a man, I don't scare easily. But she scared me so much; I had
to put on my seat belt and I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the donut out of my other hand.

In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my Cell Phone away from my ear which fell into my coffee which was between my legs, splashed, and burned Big Jim and the Twins. Ruined the damn phone, soaked my trousers, and disconnected an
Important call.

The guy on the bike was , and here's that term again, lane splitting up thru traffic.

I realize that there was a thread on this recently, and it apparently got out of hand and got locked before I even saw it, much less be able to comment.  But let's be clear on the terms. What this biker was doing was not lane splitting, but rather filtering.  Lane splitting is going in between lanes of moving traffic, usually at illegally high speeds. Filtering is almost the same thing, but with stopped traffic , at a reasonable speed. Filtering is legal in many states, including CA, where this took place.  And I find it hard to believe that this was the first time the cager had experienced this, and if he's spent any decent amount of time in that state, should be aware of it's legality.

Damn women drivers!

I can beat that. And it didn't involve a woman.

I'm sure some of us have been guilty of doing what I'm about to describe(sort of). Myself included.  I'm sure that many of us have been late to work, and needed to shave before work, therefore in an effort to save time, have run the electric shaver whilst driving. Well, one morning, I was riding to work, and I looked over at a car, where a dude was shaving.

With a cup of shaving cream and a straight razor.

Effing unbelievable.

It is good you didn't plunk down that money for the Skully helment considering they filed for bankruptcy (Chapterr 7) in August.   They blew 2M on strippers and expensive cars and similar personal expenses...  They made the mistake of messing over their bookkeeper/accountant ...really shouldnot have done that...she filed a lawsuit agaoinst them for unpaid overtime/wages...which got the feds involved.  Sarbanes Oxley starts reaching into companies for that kind of stuff.
They kept sliding the date on release to the later and later... handwriting on the wall.
Raised 2.5Million on a GoFundMe/Kickstarter like adventure to build the prodcut and establish the brand.  Unsecured debtors left in the cold...
Translate, all those those GoFundMe/Kickstarter  people...with promise to build the product for an order of the product.

They enjoyed their Lambo rentals and other lavish lifestyles.  One strip club had $2000 billing...travel, etc.

How does Bluetooth work, and would it be better, or does using it require using another device?
excuse me, I'm electronically challenged. ???

Bluetooth deals with pairing two electronic devices together, such as connecting a mobile phone to a helmet intercom system (which is what I have on my helmet). As far as using Bluetooth for a HUD unit I don't think that's possible because a HUD unit is it's own separate device connected to, for example, the fighter jet's helmet.

There is one company that makes helmets equipped with a HUD unit called Skully. If I had the extra money I would gladly buy one of their helmets.
