I've wanted to say the same thing to people texting or putting on their make up -- and drifting out of their lane.  After seeing this nutjob mow over someone, I think I'll refrain.  This last weekend, a 26 year old girl rear-ended a Duc ridden by an active duty Navy service man and then ran over and killed him.  She is appearing this morning in court to be arraigned for a Murder charge.

People are just now getting how dangerous texting is.   The cell phone companies and their lobbiests bribe or donate, however you want to put it, a tremenous amount of money to legislators to keep cellphones legal for use in cars etc.  You would think that the insurance companies and their crooked lobby would do the same.  It would save them billions.   I remember when I lived in Virginia in 1996 or 97, back when cell phones were really coming into age, using them in a vehicle was illegal.  You had to pull off the road to use them.  I cannot believe that any sane, rational individual could ever argue that texting, calling or anything you do other than drive a car is safe to do.   Our town has just instituted an ordinance banning texting, or any electronic communication in vehicles.  Finally.

Now, if some jackass hit me with his car, I'd stalk him and become creative in my retaliation if I could get my boot out his arse.
Just last month I was hit at a stop light by a girl texting.  Luckily, she had stopped first and didn't notice that she was rolling forward because she was on her phone.  She couldn't understand why I was angry.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who thinks we humans can multi-task is clueless. Unfortunately, we have only seen the tip of the iceberg thus far. I recently read a NYT article about "heads up" displays coming to our autos. Now we have to dodge folks who think they're piloting F-(fill in the blank) fighters in combat. If they were just putting themselves at risk, that would be one thing, but they will be putting us all at risk.  >:(

A HUD displaying your speed that you can see through and keeps your eyes from looking away from the windshield (to look at your dash) is not unreasonably dangerous but quite the opposite. Have you driven a vehicle with such a HUD? Didn't think so. I have. They actually work well.

My cousin flies an F16 with a HUD helmet. He's use it to target and release missiles and bombs while flying with other airplanes in his squadron - oh yeah, while flying the damn plane, too. I don't think many people can deal with that much information and task management but the SA a car or motorcycle HUD can provide is not unsafe.

There have been large amounts of studies done on phone use and driving and the results were that most people can't drive with the same concentration level when operating the phone and driving, it got much worse,  texting and face booking while driving was up too 6 times worse than  drunk driving.  car manufacturers are currently working on jamming devices to render phones useless whilst in a car, they will record calls but will not work whilst in the car, you can catch up once stopped. How did we all survive without mobile phones {insert sarcasm}... ::)

You are right, I have not experienced a vehicle with a heads up display so I will try to remain open minded. I am still skeptical though in every day, urban driving environments where some motorcyclist  ;) or bike rider appears out of no where or someone in a parked car suddenly opens a door into your lane. Guess we shall see and I'm fairly confident that once the technology appears in cars, it won't be limited to just displaying your speed.

Bluetooth deals with pairing two electronic devices together, such as connecting a mobile phone to a helmet intercom system (which is what I have on my helmet). As far as using Bluetooth for a HUD unit I don't think that's possible because a HUD unit is it's own separate device connected to, for example, the fighter jet's helmet.

There is one company that makes helmets equipped with a HUD unit called Skully. If I had the extra money I would gladly buy one of their helmets.

I'm not convinced heads up displays are good for everyone, there are plenty of people that have poor peripheral vision, peripheral vision can be improved with practice, I don't think the road is a safe place to practice it what so ever, the last thing I want is for someone to be staring at their screen, instead of through it and driving over the top of me... ;)

I would agree that HUDs are probably not good for everyone.  I just meant that they are not inherently unreasonably dangerous.  I think it's an effective alternative to glancing downward away from oncoming traffic at your gauges.  I am not so convinced about ALL of the functions in the SKULLY helmet and NUVIZ that display map directions, song info, etc.  The SKULLY even overlays your rear view in a peripheral corner.

The Skully's are great, but I think they offer too much. If there was a helmet that offered simply your speed and a rear view on it's HUD then that would be plenty.

I would love to have a HUD on my bike.

One of the biggest distractions there can be is looking at the instrument cluster.  Having the tach and the gear position in the lower left corner of the visor would help tremendously.

The guy probably didn't need to say get off the "F'ing" phone but still I hope the BMW guy gets some serious jail time. Makes me want a tail cam as well as a dash cam.

I flipped the guy some $$ for his medical bills. There is a link on the vid.

The guy probably didn't need to say get off the "F'ing" phone but still I hope the BMW guy gets some serious jail time. Makes me want a tail cam as well as a dash cam.

Yeah, the Eff part of the get off your phone did not help matters. He's lucky he didn't get shot.

Seriously..!!!, what a bunch of soft cocks you guys must be if you can't handle a swear word from someone worried about being run down by a moron on a phone, the clown in the BMW should have had that phone jammed where the sun doesn't shine, not to mention some fist induced eye make up... ::)
