Tank emblems?

Owner has all the emblems, original ones plus a better set he got off Ebay...Larry

Tins are on but the grommets  are hopefully still at  the painter's or with the owner.  Starting to take shape but I need the mounting grommets for the headlight shell before I finalize the wiring

Looking very nice, Larry!! Looking at the ram's head shaped exhaust reminded me of the "snail" shaped exhausts of the '80s two-stroke mx bikes.

When finished, yes.  The plastic is so darn yellowed that I don't think all the work will sh ow all that well.  I am using a Sharpie medium point oil metallic pen, which works real well but doesn't have much clarity when viewed normally

It is a fun project, guess I had done so many sohc that I was burnt out.  Actually working on another Yammie(650 Maxim), that is one pedestrian, run-of-the-mill motorcycles and I just finished a nice CB450(you know, the most impressive motorcycle ever made)....Larry

Larry, I was surprised to see the 450 clutch cable going into the cases, reminding me of my CA95 Benly Touring 150 which is a 65. Guess not too many years separated them but, oh so much sweeter a machine. The evolution of the bikes was fairly quick for a span of several years. It is amazing how many parts were available for the Hondas that other bikes don't enjoy. But, that has been taking a turn.

I too am glad to see you back in the swing.

Do you still want it to be gold or do you like that shade of red. Let the owner know he needs to get the codes and the like from the painter now.

I like the gold but the color was his choice and I think something the painter happened to have...

I'm not keen on his choice of color either Larry, and he could have ponied up the dough for some striping too, but for a daily rider, that's gonna be a nice ride. Cheers, Terry.

It has a couple strikes against it from a restorer's point of view. Color being non-stock is the major one. Nothing you did Momo.

Are you going to clean up the rear wheel drum/hub more than the previous photos show?
It is a weak link in the looks with the repainted tank and other paint and polish.

Red bikes often sell better, for general buyers...but the brand loyalists will gravitate towards the rare color or more striking and the classic looks that are brand or iconic of the model.

Got all the wiring together in the headlight shell but have run into a couple problems-ignition switch is broken, no spark, taillight on all the time.  I was able to find a wiring diagram so I will have to spend some time with it. Hopefully won't take too much(switch is very expensive though)

Did you clean it up more than the photos in post 34? It could use a little bit of love on the hub center and backing plate but that's just after you got the wheels/tires back from the owner.  The rims and spokes look good abd chain side is fine. Thd hub's ribbing for cooling is tough to clean and darn near impossible when spokes are on if it needs anything major.  This one doesn't but there's blemishes in the drum backing plate that could be sanded/steel wool out at the expense of any protective coating and the entire backing plate would need cleaned up & polished.
I am not trying to be critical, just haven't looked over the pics other than being lazy and viewing on my phone.  So, your later photos might show a different story. I have limited viewing on the phone browser.

Sorry you let the little Suzuki go, I know you liked it a lot. I think that you are going to find a nice replacement project aftrr or during thinning of the herd to the choice remaining bikes you keep.

The money from the Suzuki sale was used to purchase the triumph .   For me the wheel is fine as is, I don't polish hubs-why bother when it is just going to get dirty on use?    Outside and interior of both wheels were cleaned, all brake cams removed, cleaned, sanded/polished for fitment and lightly greased, wheel bearing inspected as well as brake pads-should be good to go for quite awhile.   I am having trouble finding the proper front brake cable without paying a week of wages for  purchase .. When I was a kid, people used to tie a little leather strap loosely around the hubs of their bicycles, and the constant rotation would keep them highly polished. I wonder if it'd work on motorcycle hubs? I don't polish anything, I've only washed my Yamaha FJ1200 once, and that was around the corner from the roadworthy tester, to wash all the oil and crap off it prior to the inspection. Last night I finally got spark on both cylinders by jumping the red wire into the switch to the brown wire out.  Happy as a vulture on road kill, turned to change the record(yes, I listen to vinyl whilst working in the shop) then turned back to the Yammie, which was on fire inside the headlight shell .  the results are not good



Plus I burned my finger putting the fire out



On the brighter side, I finished the emblems and temporarily added a stripe to the tank






 and  Found a harness on Feebay for less than my first born...Larry

It sucks the fire roasted the harness, but better than the owner doing it after getting it back.  Sorry you had the burn.  Did it kill the paint on the headlight shell? Was the headlight shell metal or plastic?

Hope you are still doing OK.

Just a setback, you know it runs.

BTDT Larry. Was chasing a problem on my CBX, preparing for the first firing. Turned out to be a pinched 12v wire I ran up to the Dyna coils via the wrong route. It pinched and intermittently shorted to ground. My super smart (not kidding) brother suggested "try the next size fuse". and being my super smart brother, I unthinkingly took his suggestion, and melted down a CBX harness before I got the power turned off.
