Seriously though, I was very lucky...........harness cost was less than $30 with shipping. I had expected to be set back waaaay more than that.
Here are a couple close-up photos of the non-harness parts that have to be grafted and rewired as replacements seem to be unobtainium.

I have the connection kit from VintageConnections so I will be able to take the correct color wires from the burnt harness and graft onto the gauge and handlebar switch wiring and come up with a fairly clean and almost stock looking repair.
Also, I found a NOS replacement ignition switch for $60 with shipping. I think the old switch could have been the fire starter but really will never know with certainty...Larry
