MEK is the only way to get good results with RedKote which is MEK based.  You can think RedKote with Mek to get really good even coverage.  I had a small can was hanging on for emergency.  Now I might do this tank on my bike.  We'll see.  Getting sick of all the burbs and farts it is giving me due to junk in tank.

I have never met anyone who used any type of liner. What's it's purpose? If your tank has holes, it is due to rust and the rust will still spread using a liner. Fix it properly by brazing or gas welding.

That is not correct, and you've not paid attention. To install a liner, the interior needs to be first be treated. That entails removing any existing rust, and "etching" the surface for the liner adhesion.

And has been said repeatedly previously, a liner is not an "improper" repair. It has its place. Brazing or welding is NOT viable when stock original paint is at risk.

Not necessarily true, my RD tank has rust only on the inside. I treated it and coated with Caswell.
There was no way I was repainting this 40 year old survivor..

Use liner only when you want maintain original paint? Otherwise weld and line afterwards if you want to help prevent rust? Am I correct? I personally don't care if the paint is original (I'm not like everybody). Most original paint has rust or fading, so it needs to be redone anyway.

Use a liner if/when: you want to resolve interior damage due to rust, pinholes and the paint needs to be preserved.

If you can weld up the damage, then a liner is not required, but may still prove beneficial.

@Lester - there's nothing "not right" with using a liner regardless of your opinion.

Not unusual for people to still get a peek a boo paint bubble eventually appear after a tank repair. Good liner is just one more layer of protection.

Thanks, the bike runs great. However, the clutch slips above 6K, I have the parts, need to rebuild the clutch.

I use red kote. Covers well. Flexible so it doesn't get brittle and crack apart (which ive seen happen with caswell).

Also Kreem is crap. I'm working on a customer's tank now that has a Kreem bladder pulling away inside it.

 Thanks for the info on liners, I'm looking at doing one myself. There is a place for these products, an original paint tank has more value then they used to and are worth saving.

Going to use Caswell. Do you think the 3 gallon tank kit will do me 3.5 gallon CB350F tank or should I get the ten gallon kit?

It will just be enough. When you pour it in, do cover the fill hole with tape to slow the curing down while you tumble the tank to get a full coating. If you use the small batch, I'd fill through the petcock first to insure you coat the underside of the top. It will drip down to help coat the floor later.

If your tank has crossover tubes, stuff a wire (just large enough) in from below to prevent the liner from clogging these. Twist them every 5 minutes while you tumble, then keep them loose during the first 30 minutes of the curing process, and remove before the liner sets. And you should be good to go-
