Lets go around this one more time...

Is not it the case that when the mythical bagger passes you in your lane that this is "lane splitting"?

No.
Lane splitting, in oz and I'm sure in the usa, is the term used to describe riding between two lines of cars, normally at traffic lights or road blockages in an effort to get to the front of the queue, normally at very slow speed when the other traffic is at a standstill (although you do see the odd idiot doing it at speed through moving traffic). This is now legal, providing the traffic is stopped or moving very slowly, in parts of oz and by the sounds of it in cal.
It is sometimes referred to as lane filtering.

+1 yeah. The only thing I sometimes worry a bit about when the auto drivers are stopped is someone opening their car door into me while I'm slowly 'moving up' toward the front.
That must be from when I ride bicycles..it happens a Lot in cities and causes me to be more aware of what the drivers are doing while they're sitting still;I need to move slow to keep an eye on them  ::)

In my state it's not legal (yet) and generally police turn a blind eye to it, providing you're not being an idiot.
I only do it some of the time, depending on mood and conditions, but often with the (relatively) low volumes of traffic in my city there's not a hell of a lot to gain. Generally, I don't use the bikes to commute anyway, so weekend traffic doesn't warrant it at all.
Enough of this, public holiday here, off for a ride....probably without lane splitting  ;D

So what is it?
Let's Google the term...

Wiki
"Lane splitting refers to a two-wheeled vehicle moving between roadway lanes of vehicles that are proceeding in the same direction. More narrowly, it refers to overtaking slow or stopped vehicles by traveling between lanes.[1][2] It is also sometimes called lane sharing, whitelining,[3] filtering, or stripe-riding.[4]"

Y'all are arguing semantics, Wiki uses the term "more narrowly" to indicate the slow or stopped case.

Did I not state quite simply that I thought lane splitting was legal in CA now?  I made no statement about the conditions under which it is legal, just that I thought it was;  why doe this illicit an Aussie rant about backward America?

You are the one with comprehension problems Mark, I'm clearly talking about the laws, if you read what i said in its entirety you would see that i'm talking about the LAWS being backward, the USA lags  behind the rest of the world with these laws..!! FFS Mark, to almost every motorcyclist and law maker on the planet, Lane filtering in regards to law and motorcycles is exactly what Peter described, and what the rest of us are talking about,  you DON'T understand so you do a bloody internet search.... :o The only person here that doesn't know what they are talking about is you....give it a rest... ::)

My point remains: Passing in a way that puts you in a position relative to another driver that is unexpected is dangerous, I am against it, how about y'all?

  :D )

Stupidity??? and for sure it is illegal....Larry

The point remains This thread started out about bikers lane splitting other bikers, I never tried to drop it to what is legal vs what is illegal. that was just someone's twist on what I said. Personally I don't think what is being discussed is illegal or many who ride in groups would be fair game for police based local revenue enhancement.

Y'all just chose to slam me because I used a term that is applicable to the situation but not within your narrow definition of it.  You should give it up, move on to something relevant to the issue.  Perhaps as definition police y'all should take the effort to Google what you are grumbling about before you throw in your 2 cents.

Have a pleasant day.

You asked a question, you were given an answer, and instead of respecting the answer and subsequent opinions you are hell bent on arguing and trying to prove you know best. If you are so sure you know, or apparently knew where to get the answers (as you are so quick to point out to others) why did you ask in the first place? Argumentative or just bored?
My response, along with others, was based on commonly held beliefs, 45 years riding experience, qualifications and a dose of law. But you go ahead and stick to your google searches. Look up "acceptance" while you're there.

Well that was fun.   :D

Facts are facts, whether they are backed up by a Google search, or experienced in a court room.

Read my posts again, perhaps with a little bit of an open mind.  I posted a simple comment stating I did not like anyone passing me in my lane and asking about lane splitting in California being legal now.  No matter how you define it, these are related acts by people on motorcycles.  Jumping ugly with me over it did nothing but allow an excuse for me to jerk chains for several days, something I love to do.

I'll even argue with people who believe the most outlandish things and try to label it as "science"; I do this in full understanding that anyone who can confuse Science and Belief is impossible to debate logically. ( Amazingly some will even enter into this debate and stick their nose in where it does not belong even when they are told up front I know such a debate is useless.)

Gentlemen I have been randomly hanging out here for 7 years, If you want to argue over nonsense I am always glad to participate, this is why I often drag these things out long after I know I am debating semantics.

Till the next time!

And there he is again the make my own interpretation of reality dude.

Merit, what a joke, what about the merit of jumping ugly on my original statement in the first place?  And despite what has been expounded on at length the two conditions are related every one is just backed into the corner and none will stop and think.

You are unreal; a person who suffers from self delusion advising me on how to get along. Did you ever stop to think that if I wanted to get along with the delusional among us I would accept the pseudo science y'all expound?  Think about it, I just told you why I do what I do, and you could not see the world well enough thru your own self righteous delusion to know it was best just move on.

Enlightened, that is interesting, never thought of myself as that.  Educated sufficiently to  know what is truly predictive vs. what is selective analysis; I am that.

I am now really good at cleaning, tuning and syncing carbs, took several attempts on the 750, but like most things it just takes patience. Altitude can indeed make a difference, but where I am there is no issue, so please do not concern yourself.

Have a nice day.

Read my posts again, perhaps with a little bit of an open mind.

As opposed to your closed minded rubbish.?  You've single handedly renamed a situation thats known to most, then based your entire dribbling rant on it,  You simply don't get it, your "interpretation" of what  lane filtering is,  is laughable. If indeed you are just being an ass, simply because you can then you deserve everything you get. I suspect you've dug yourself a hole, and now, as in your previous lame attempts, are trying to bullsh1t your way out of it. You seem to think you are intelligent, but i'm afraid that doesn't make you smart, you've done your best to prove that... Yes it was fun, entirely at your expense....Thanks.... ::)

Took the words straight from my mind, Retro... Deflection and arrogance are his only two tools. And he's certainly not as clever as he thinks for missing the obvious-

Ah well, I always like a good laugh at someone else folly masqueraded as intelligence  ;)

Still shaking my head Cal, in person it would have been over with 3 words, {FOI, and its not "freedom of information}i'll leave that up to you to interpret... ;)

And you continue, Amazing.

Why do you continue?  ( these are rhetorical questions BTW)

Is it because I do seek to get just a little bit of civility when I am entering a discussion?

Is it because I will hammer back on what I perceive as just plain unnecessary bashing on here?

Is the fact that just because you all say something, I do not fawn all over the pearls of wisdom and accept them?

Or is it because I am right the two subjects are related and could have been part of the same conversation and y'all are too self righteous to admit it and move on.

Is it my Atheism that sets you all off?

Something sets your teeth on edge boys, you need to self examine.

Later dudes
