1970 k1 switch wiring question (re-wire with CBR SWITCHES)
« on: June 01, 2015, 04:48:19 PM »
Hey guys.

So I want modern controls. I think I have the engine start/stop switch re-wired.

The left CBR switch has hi/low bean, turn and horn all in one! I was able to re-wire the horn and the turn ok.

MY QUESTION  is on the hi/low beam. On the stock control their are 4 wires. White, brown/white , black, dark blue.

But on the modern CBR switch there is only  2 wires. Dark blue, dark blue/white.

I also have noticed that the casing of the stock switch is aluminum and grounds onto the handbars. CBR switch is plastic no ground.

Any done this before?

Find the wiring diagram for the CBR switches. It's possible that those are just signal wires for relays elsewhere on the bike. The stock wires are:

White - low beam
Blue - high beam
brown/white - power in
black - ground

I have the CBR and the cb750 wire diagrams. CBR is very complex.

I have seen many gsxr and cbr switches re-wired online. Hoping some one knows about this

I doubt anyone is going to have a wiring diagram to convert it over. The easiest way is take out your multimeter and find continuity between each wires.

Post the cbr wiring diagram. I'll see if I can make sense of it for you.

can you provide the year/model of the CBR switches you're using? Your pasted image is unreadable on my end

They are 2008 cbr600rr switches. If you click the image it gets larger.

Awesome pal. Thx. I got everything matches up, and wired except for that hi/low light beam switch.

Found this one which looks like a similar switch:

Tracing wires now.

So, the Blue/White is low and Blue is high beam. Are those wires hot?

yes, i think they are hot wires. and the car housing is all plastic

but on the stock cb switch their are the 4 wires., (as noted above) and the whole switch is cast aluminum which is grounded on the bars.

just not sure if i need to make a ground? or even how to do that, on that cbr switch

i guess just connect the 2 car hot wires to the hot wires in the stock cb switch and see what happeneds

i guess i really won't know until i put a multi meter to it and trial and error.

You don't need to worry about the stock switch wiring. The extra two wires were the switched power in (brown/white) and the ground (black). The only thing you need to figure out on your new hand control is where the power to the hi/low switch comes from.

I found this diagram which is more readable for the CBR600. I colorized the headlight circuit. It looks like there is a headlight relay that handled the high beam. The CBR switch assumes that low beam came on with the kill switch. So, easiest way to get this to work for you would be to:

- Connect the White from the headlight, the Blue/White from the switch and a Brown/White in the headlight bucket to give you switched low beam running lights that come on with the key.
- Connect the Headlight Green to ground.
- Connect the Blue headlight wire to the Blue from the switch. If your switch works as I think it does, the high beam setting connects the Blue wire to the Blue/White one. So, this should theoretically give you high beam.

Hey wowbagger, sorry I am attempting to do this now. Been very busy at work.

Any how, I tried like you said.

White headlight wire + blue/white from switch + and I guess a jumper wire from the brown/white harness to the white headlight wire?

Headlight green to green in harness

And blue headlight to blue switch,

I get nothing.

Modern bikes have the low beam on as soon as the ignition is turned.

You will have to do the same for the switch to function correctly. To do this you will need to connect the black  power that went to the old headlight switch directly to the white and brown/white.

For high you need to use a relay as most modern bikes use them for their switches. Connect power to blue/white you can use the same black wire as mentioned above then blue will go to 85 or 86 on the relay.

Also a lot of people on here don't know what they are talking about. Brown/white and black are both live. However brown/white is only live when using the stock switches as black is the one feeding it.
