cycle x rods
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:37:12 PM »
I have a question. I have cycle x rods and a crank that was not originally with this motor. I think the crank has been ground on (balanced?). Anyways, one bearing spun in one rod, took it to the machine shop who honed it out back to were it needed to be. I ended up ordering  brown bearings for the rods and when I plasti gauged them all four were at .0015. The manual says .0008-.0018 is acceptable. When I install the green, they are too tight. My question is would everyone else go ahead and leave the bottom end alone with the brown bearings or would you all have the crank machined to run the green bearings. The crank is in perfect shape. Thanks for any assistance.  Dan

I am not going to get into this but the green bearings are LOOSER than the brown.

Dont turn a crank unless you have to,removing material is not good for longevity

Hoe did they hone the crankshaft?

they did not hone the crank, they honed the big end of the rod. Basically, they cut the cap down and then they hone the big end  of the rod to make it round again. 15.00 is better than 150.00 any day. U are correct, if I had the crank milled, I would have to go to the black bearings. I think I will run it the way it is now. thanks Dan

Not only will it be shorter but I assume the bearings won't fit right anymore

The rebuilt rod might be .002" shorter, at the most, and if it was properly honed to the proper size the bearing will fit fine. ;)

+1, black the tightest,  yellow the most clearance. Believe brown next to black,  all from memory, double check, Bill
