Yamiya 300 pipes? Anyone have them?
« on: June 05, 2015, 05:29:37 PM »
Im close to pulling the trigger! I want new 4/4s and cant pay for NOS! Got a notice from DSS U/K back in stock! But fine print said blemished. So started searching e-bay and these are always around plus another site which I think sells same pipes. Anyone used these? If I get caught in the rain are they going to rust like a Mac? I need 341s but only you guys are going to notice they aren't correct.                                                                                                                                                                                 http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB750-EXHAUST-MUFFLER-K0-SANDCAST-NO-NUMBER-NEW-M066-/131526626927?hash=item1e9f990e6f&vxp=mtr

Thanks Davez134! just whipped through your k-2 thread! Chrome looks nice and thick! The baffle really looks of good quality also. Still looking for the Machiv guys review. they might be the same pipe probably. I wish I saw the 20% off Yamiya had last month! 1180$ .Oh well.

I've thought for a while that they are the same pipes. At one time machiv had a few of the same pictures as yamiya had.

I got a set of the no number pipes from machIV. I waited a few months to put them on due to shop obligations. I painted them inside with the Eastwood internal exhaust paint hoping to extend their life. They fit well, I put them on loosely, connected the rear coupler, snugged the footpeg bolt and then used a rolled up towell and a rubber mallet to encourage the 1 and 4 pipes to move back toward the engine a little. I've ridden a few miles with them but it's my sandcast bike and I'm planning no long trips.
I was assuming they were the same as yamiya but it didn't say that on the box or paperwork.

I bought the Yamiya no number pipes when they got released in June last year. Easy fit, look great, sound great and seem to be quite good quality. I rate them as a really good replacement.

Mine had a couple of small scratches in places where it won't show, overall I'd say the quality looks what I'd expect Honda to supply. The chrome is good but not like show quality high dollar chrome.
They were packed in expanding foam, bagged individually and separated in pairs by cardboard. All the bolts, nuts, washers, balance tubes, clamps, clamp screws and heat shields add to the cost.

I ordered a set of 4-4 from Yamiya750 too.  Quality look really good. I'm optimistic regarding the HM300 style when it comes to flow and tuned engine. I'll see if I need to remove the diffusers completely, damping wool  around the diffusers cannot be good.

All other parts needed cost some extra, heat shields, rubber tubes, sidestand rubber protection, bolts, head adaptors... I even ordered a restored repainted center stand! I feel that I must take it back to how it look when I bought it :-)
The 4-4 plan triggered me to order IKON shocks with OEM chrome look when my red  Marzocchi AG Strada shocks will look awful with 4-4.

I removed the 4-4 with everything with center stand and replaced it with a RC4-1 fastened with suts as the later K7 1980. Next 4-1 of similar design.
The 4-4 yet to be mounted.

When you buy the hose clamp the clamp's screw is  a separate part number. The nut is integral. Crazy.

................Chrome looks nice and thick! .............

I hate to inform you that is not the case with the yami repops. I have a set of the 300 repops from yamiya which at first glance look fine, chrome is all there to cover them up nicely, but it is nowhere near as thick or lustrous as NOS/OE pipes or even a decently rechromed set. I have a set of NOS 341s that outshine these by miles and they have a rock solid coat. I have a set of rechromed 341s that are comparable to the NOS ones in shine but still not quite as thick (but there's a long and unfortunate story behind their demise).

I just received a box with the 341 knock-offs from DSS last night.  Haven't installed yet, but the quality looks pretty darn good to me.  The chrome may not be quite as deep as my original sets, but it isn't far off and I imagine once they are on there and polished, they will be fantastic.   Curious to hear what they sound like.
I have one set of original 300s and another original set of 341s - the difference really is night and day.

For the price $965 + $17 to ship them, I don't think that we will ever have stock pipes at this price ever again.  I will say that packing wasn't the best.  They were individually wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap within boxes identical to what Honda used to package them in and those 4 were within another box.
So, they can definitely wiggle around in transport.  Mine arrived with the box dented/smashed on one end - although it really wasn't that bad.  Fortunately, I didn't see anything alarming when I opened up the boxes.

I might try that Eastwood exhaust paint that Don mentioned.  In the past, I've just poured some oil down them and swished it around before draining and installing.   Smokes like a chimney for a while, but it adds some piece of mind.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Regarding the "sound"of these reproduced pipes, is it still practice to run a router through the internal baffle to reduce back pressure, or was that only possible with the OEM steel quality?

I guess that Yamiya no numbers (300 replica) sounds louder than 341 replica, right? When running them without baffle.
300 have better flow, therefore larger baffle.
HM341 has just an endcap. 341 replicas look the same?
