Well i took the plunge. Found a great deal and the wife said it is my bday/father's present. 1999 Honda VFR with just under 25k. Babied and garage kept. I am unable to pick it up until next Friday at earliest though. But here are some pics. If anyone has some insight that would be great.

I've ridden vfrs. But not this bike. It's about an hour and a half from me and we are busy all weekend. Next Friday is the earliest I can get to it. Saturday may work but I have to do a dyno run on the 605 to report back if any HP increase with the big bore and head work. The 605 will be kept. My oldest is already looking forward to it as he stated yesterday.

I should have updated this as I picked up the bike on Saturday. Weird looking at a bike and it looks like it did when new. Not bad for a 16 yr old bike. Started right up. While chit chatting I loaded up the wife's SUV with a bunch of goodies. I have done over 225 miles already. I could have gotten more but there are few ethanol free gas stations near me and when I visit my dad I always stop at the same gas station to fill up. Not to mention the guy filled it up for me.

The sargeant seat has already been installed.

I had a 92 VFR and it's one bike I wished I still had. A most satisfying ride and I could do 400 mile days back to back on her. Mine did throw a lot of heat, but good for cooler weather. Glad to hear of another rider who likes them.

Sweet Bike Tews! The 5th Gen VFRs are the best. I have an '01 with just 17,000 miles on it. I picked it up in a pre-divorce sale two years ago. The VFR is the king of do-it-all bikes. I had an '04 VFR V-Tech before this one, but totaled it when an idiot decided to pull out and stop right in front of me. The 5th gen in my opinion is a better overall machine.

Make sure you get registered on VFRD.com. Like this site, there are plenty of folks to lend a helpful hint when you need it.

If you are like me, you may find that you actually enjoy riding the old Hondas better than the VFR. The VFR is just too.........perfect. It's fast, stable, handles well, brakes well, rides well, is comfortable, and never breaks. Just change the oil religiously, throw some gas in her, and go.

The only issue I had with mine was that I had to replace the thermostat shortly after I got it. Took about three hours. Seems to be a common issue when they get this age.

Anyway, enjoy that VFR!

Just saw your video. That hose/"pump" goes for the PAIR Valve. The PO obviously blocked it off. Some VFR owners claim better performance, some say not. There are some other "modifications" that the PO may have made also - O2 Eliminators, Snorkle Valve, Etc. May be worth lifting the tank just to see what was done. None of the mods, if done correctly, will hurt anything. Some say doing these mods make the bike sound better at least. I still have all items on my '01 VFR. I figure if it ain't broke, leave alone. If nothing else, the PO knocked off a couple of pounds for you.

Hey Sniper thanks for the feedback! I joined VFRdiscussions and VFRworld already. I learned that part removed was the PAIR valve and i read the thread what it all entails when doing this mod.

The PO took great care of this ride and I was fortunate to have him hold it for a week and a half for me till I could pick it up. he already installed an upgraded R/R and put a fan on it to help with the cooling process. Today I put the Micron exhaust and the GIVI windshield on. Some piss poor weather here or else I would have gone for a ride. I did get 178 miles to 4.01 gallons which was awesome.

I met a guy down here in Kazoo who has a tradition every year of biking up over the bridge with a buddy just to eat a few. Guess on bikes were always thinking "where you wanna go ?"

It's a Ford, he should prolly sell it as it will break down before the VFR does!

I always get pasties when we head up North Eric. Grcamma- the Ford is well, gone. From the second week I had it I had brake calipers locking up. Half the speakers worked and now the body was rusting pretty bad. I think it was just my truck as a few friends have them and none of the same issues.

As for the VFR, what a bike. Handles awesome, lots of power when needed, and around 200 miles to the tank!

What part of Wisconsin are you in? I'm from Madison area originally and all but I still live there. My father lives in northern Wi in Mercer by the UP. I'm going there in August and will probably trailer one of my bikes up there. Haven't decided whether to bring the VFR or my '75 550. I definitely want to cruise up around the UP there.

I am in Waukesha. I plan to do another little trip but to GB for the family night with the Packers on the VFR. After a month with the VFR I have ridden the CB550 but it isn't the same. The plan was to never get a modern bike after my accident but now i have this. The CB is being ridden by my brother so it isn't being neglected totally. The CB seems to be a bike I plan to toy around with to keep me busy and ride on the back roads but for some serious riding I will be sticking to the VFR

I hear ya, two completely different animals. I love them both for different reasons. I took the 550 to western part of VA this weekend and put over 400 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounding twisty roads. I did the same a month ago with the VFR. It was actually more fun on the 550. Slower, more challenging, but much cooler. I actually hung with some squids on their 600's in the tighter sections, not bad for a 40+ yo guy on a 40 yo scooter.
Maybe I'll hit you up when I get back up to the great white north next month and get a ride in.
