I finally picked up this dragbike from the 70's. It was a copy of the East Detroit Michigan Cycle Parts Funnybike that Jim Ludiker campaigned in the mid 70's. It only ran at Milan Dragway a few times before it was parked and sat for 40 years. A Harley guy picked it up at the widows garage sale last summer. He got it ready for a local bike show by taking it apart and paint everything flat black. At the show he talked of getting it running and said I could would try to get him some history on the bike. When I told him it ran on Methanol, I guess he was ready to sell it. After 3 months of getting the price down I now own it along with a laydown frame I painted back in the 70's. I plan to get it back to how it looked in the 70's instead of the flat flack look.

The mechanical fuel injection worked back in the 70's. I know the guy that built and calibrated the fuel system back in the day and he still is doing that work today. The first SOHC built that this bike was copied from ran 9.0's around 1975 with this same fuel system.

Saw this on Facebook a few months back. Heard it was bought as is for $150.

I have done alot of research & work with Hilborn injectors (Methanol included) the last year and am going to be running them on a SOHC 750 dragbike this year. They do provide a significant HP increase and defiantly the "WOW" factor as well. Once you can figure out how and when to tune it

That being said, this bike is sweet. Also the only one I've seen so far that uses the CAMSHAFT to run the fuel pump= SO COOL!

I will probably sell the laydown frame on feeBay........it has an oil tank, rear seat/fender, chain guard, 15 inch Cragar rear wheel with hub, disc & sprocket.

I bought it from the guy that got it for $150 and I paid considerable more.....

I know the guy that originally did the fuel system and he did at least 3 other SOHC bikes with the cam drives back in the 70's. He has a calibration bench to flow the complete system on to get me in the ball park.

Crazy part of the story is I only saw a photo of the laydown frame and when I went to buy it I find my name on it.......I painted it 40 years ago and don't remember doing it.

On the bike you bought the swingarm looks welded in! So there is no height adustment by changing strut length, and how is the front held in..where is your he pivot bolt?
Can you show us a pic of the dohc dragbike behind it..looks pretty cool..

The turbo chassis is all 4130 chromoly except for the lower cradle and the motor mounts...... the swing arm, struts, are all welded solid, it is a work of art! The seat and side cover mount were surgically removed from the stock frame and Tigged back on the 4130 seat loop.

The DOHC is a car tired CBX Prostock from the late 80's I never finished.......I will refrain from posting CBX pics on a SOHC forum for now.

There is an "OTHER BIKES" section here on this forum. Please post pictures of the CBX there so we can see your progress on that project also. Curious to see more about this bike.

lovely. coming to think about it, that big, egli style top tube could be a nice upgrade to any sohc frame..... shouldnt be that hard to do

Hey Larry....I ran IDBA Pro Stock from 79 to 85 when you were running.... Good to see you are still at it.

I need to get more history on it, but I think it only ran at Milan, Michigan a couple times. It is a clone of Jim Ludiker's bike that Tom Gaff rode, which might have run an IDBA meet at 42 in 76 or 77.

I had the same thoughts, gets rid of the oil tank as well...
