Rickman Honda front wheel bearings
« on: June 03, 2015, 08:01:11 AM »
Hi, Im currently stripping the wheels down on my Rickman Honda project.
The wheels are Kawasaki 7 spoke, 650cc or similar.
Rear wheel is done but  its the front wheel. Has anyone taken these front bearings out as there could be a shoulder on the inside that stops you pushing the bearings out.
I know there probably Kawasaki but there on the Rickman Honda and Im sure someone has come across this.
Ill get there in the end but Any views welcome

Regards Keith

Keith, sounds like you are not sure if the wheels are Kawasaki? The 7 spoke Kawi wheels were patterned after Morris wheels. In the attached pic, the Morris is on the left, and a 550 Kawi wheel is on the right. The spokes have a "+" shaped cross-section, while Lester (and Yamaha clones) have a "H" shaped cross-section.

Some guys have used a 1/2" concrete anchor that expands to grip the inside of the bearing to pull it out. I haven't done this particular wheel but a drift pin with the end ground to catch an edge might work.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Your right I'm not sure what they are , when I can post a picture I will.
Removal of the bearing with an internal puller seems the only option really but the lip its got to attach to is so small, I cant see a manufacturer making it that difficult to get the bearing out.
It will come out one way or another, just wondered if there was a special tool or something
Cheers guys

Bearing now removed. Had to use a small screwdriver then a punch just catching the spacer edge.
The spacer and bearing pushed out then the other bearing was easy.
There's no play in the bearings but for the small cost of replacing them it's a no brainer.
The spacer just needs a little refacing.
Wheels now ready to go to the refurbishers.

If they are Kawasaki wheels they will have "made in Japan" and or  "Enkei" on one of the spokes, Morris were made in the USA... ;)
