Around here if you can find a bar/tavern open on a Sunday you can drink all the alcohol you want but you can't buy and take any home with you. What that means is that you can't buy any alcoholic beverages in a grocery store on Sunday and all liquor stores are closed on Sunday as well BUT you can get blitzed all you want at the bar ....... and then drive home rather than buy it, take it home, park the car (hide the keys) and then get drunk.
i bet liquor sales are higher on Saturday  ::)

Definitely that last half hour before midnight.

In Baltimore County Maryland liquor stores are closed Sundays but bars with a liquor store can sell on Sundays. It varies from County to County around here.

In Gustavus before 9-11,  someone suggested nowhere but there could you park in the middle of the road, side by side with another car, pop a beer, light a cigarette, and discuss the days events while  blocking both lanes.

A added that you could also do that  in the middle of a runway where they land 737's.

I almost forgot....in Vermont it is legal to pass on double yellow lines; but you have to have a clear line of sight, stay under the speed limit, signal your turns and know the law when the cop pulls you over.

In New York:

I need a permit to:

Possess an handgun anywhere including my home.
Possess only the handguns listed on my permit.
My concealed carry permit is valid anywhere in the State EXCEPT NYC. ( I may travel through NYC without long interruptions.)
I cannot openly carry.
I may only carry 7 rounds which has been challenged and knocked down in one Court.
I have an obligation to retreat before using deadly force, unless a deadly weapon is pointed at me.

I cannot lane split.
I must wear a helmet and eye protection.

I still cannot believe the 7 round limit. Complete BS! Hopefully you are able to get plenty of target practice in. Make them 7 count!

If you need more than 7 rounds to solve a problem with a handgun, it's time to start negotiating-

True... But most concealed carry permit holders have never been in a high stress situation. Run a mile as fast as you can... Then pop off 7 rounds immediately at a 15 yard silhouette target.

Well, at 15 yards you aren't in imminent danger, that's 7 yards. And most Concealed Carry holders wouldn't get in a shoutout at 15 yards.

FWIW, my CWP training had us in stressed, active situations and everyone in my class did very well. Much better than the cops I shot Bullseye with. And you shouldn't carry if you don't practice and have very good judgement. It's a right, but it's a huge responsibility to take on. My opinion, and not meaning to incite a riot on the thread.

No riot incited, Cal. I agree with everything you say. I also appreciate that you keep yourself a proficient shooter.  A person granted this much responsibility MUST take it seriously, or not carry at all. It is scary how easy it is to acquire a CCW in some states... mine included. I obtained a CCW from ND and Utah without firing a single shot. I passed a written test... that's it! Not something I'm super fond of. However I, like you... practice, practice, and practice some more.  My point was about being limited to only X amount of rounds... from the same city that limited soda intake. BTW... Is the sugary drinks act/ban still in effect in NYC?

Another thing that somewhat pisses me off (Wrong thread... I know) are smoking bans. I don't smoke and never have.... but I hate when freedoms are taken away. This is America, damnit!

Here it is legal to buy:

while Confederacy flag is banned?

I will never understand Americans.

I will shutup shortly, but I knew guy who thought it great joke to bike in USSR bicycle jersey - I asked him  if he would wear nazi svastika on his back for the kicks of it and he failed to see the irony.

I never owned Confederacy flag and never really cared for Mosby heritage in our area, but  in the recent development I may change my attitude - same as the non smoker in previous post.

Maybe this should be posted to a "pissed-off" thread...but this proposed by-law is upsetting to me because the township is just next door to me (about 3 km away). I live in a rural residence and have ATV and dirt bike that are un-licensed and used on my property.  I use the ATV for winter plowing and other times to haul firewood from the bush.  Restricting their use to such hours as proposed is unrealistic, but I don't believe restricting excessive noise is.  I think my lawnmowers and chainsaw makes more noise, but nobody has complained. (At least no one has showed-up with a gun yet!)

Fargo, ND used to have a law stating it was illegal to swim naked in the Red River between 8 am and 8 pm.  Which of course means it was LEGAL to do so at night.

Two peas in a pod, Joey, two peas in a pod.

I think it egregious when rights are infringed for the sake of political optics. There is not much consistency in the nucleus of most laws when compared to others. Seat belts required, but not helmets in all states? Aren't both the right of the state? Then why not bicyclists be required to wear a helmet? More kids die from bike accidents annually than by gunshot. And that's by a long shot!

My wife is from VT. Years ago we bought a piece of land with the intention of moving/retiring/withdrawing from urban/suburban life. Shortly thereafter, things went haywire up there. Sold the land and would never live there now. We need to change this thread title to:

"It is no longer legal here..."

Well, as far as it being legal to wear a helmet....I NEVER wear a helmet when I'm on my bicycle. I find it too restrcting, and I like to tweak a few liberal neighbors.
I let the tourists yell at me when they drive by in their 'safe" Audi's etc etc.

ps. all the idiots on bicycles tour riders on my road wear helmets, but ride 2 and sometimes 3 abreast. so whom is safer?

No the soda ban never went through. I was the size of the sodas that was in question. Except for the 7 round limit all of the pistol laws were in place in the 1920's. The "Assault Weapons" registration bull#$%* is new.

No one knows how many Rifles fitting their silly criteria are in private hands. The estimate runs from 500K to 1M. To date about 50K have been registered. The Sheriffs in most Counties will not enforce the law unless a crime is committed.

There are two New Yorks. There is the NY Metro Area around the city and into the suburbs where there is a high population and more liberal. Then there is the other NY which is basically Rural and the people there are more conservative. It is also very beautiful scenery.

The rural NY is about and hour North and West of me. You can see and sense the change in the scenery and the people.

I live one hour from Midtown Manhattan and one hour from Rural NY. It is a very nice arrangement.

Bobby as an aside I think you can find that almost anywhere, as soon as you get out of town things change, quieter, more laid back, better land to look at, you can feel the tension that a city brings slide off I know that I live 3.5 to 4 hours north of the TO mega maze/cage and at about 2 hours the crap starts to drain away, not so frantic. I know if I had a small aircraft I would be farther north starting at Tobermory and going north.
