oil pump removal(O-Ring replacement)
« on: October 20, 2006, 05:51:31 PM »
I've tracked down an oil leak to the pump.1975 CB550K
I've searched the archives with neg results for info on removal.
My manual says to remove the outer cover(3 countersunk screws) then remove inner and outer rotors etc....
My question is, can I just remove the entire housing whole (3 outer screws) and leave the end cover and rotors intact. All I want to do is replace the O-rings on the inside face of the pump.
Thanks
T

Yes you can take the complete pump off and change the 3 "O" rings in there, which you can get from honda. Trouble is its usually the "O" ring under the top cover that leaks and that one you cant buy from honda!
I have spent much time sourcing these and can supply all 4 "O" ring for $10 including airmail to the US. Email me direct if you want a set.

Brianj, you are going to be hearing from me. Notably, the o-rings in question are not in any of my full dress gasket or o-ring kits. My pump is presently hand screwed in place keeping the dust out while awaiting some sort of action. During my tear down I found the two principle o-rings t/b the most in need of replacement for the whole engine. $10 sounds like a bargin!
