Why you do think a long gun is less safe if loaded in public places than a sidearm is? Both are loaded, both have a mechanical safety, and both are at the disposal of the good judgement (hopefully) of the person carrying them. Now, an open carry long gun probably makes people more nervous than a sidearm, I'll agree with that. But less safe? I'm not with you-

You don't have to outlaw guns Steve, they aren't outlawed here, you just need good across the board checks and balances so most of the guns are know about, also, no one needs fully automatic weapons in society period, there will always be illegal guns.

I'm talking about public perception.  I can safely carry a loaded long gun in public, round in the chamber, safety on, but would I?  Probably not, because it scares the otherwise long gun ignorant public.  When I conceal carry, no one knows, so no one freaks out, etc.  I would feel more comfortable if I saw someone open carry a long gun, like an AR, if it didn't have a magazine in the well, with the bolt locked to the rear.  I'm not saying they shouldn't open carry their long gun, just do it so the general public doesn't freak out.  There has to be some balance between exercising your 2A right and freaking out the public.

What kind of message are you trying to relay to people when you do something like that? I am not stable and feel I need to brandish assault rifles at public places? Scare the bejeezus out of the populace? It is stupid, plain and simple. You are putting your stupidity and ignorance on public display.

The smart person keeps them out of the view of the citizenry and government eyes and uses them to keep shooting skills up and if it does happen (I pray it does not happen in my lifetime) the $hit hits the fan and you REALLY have to use it.

I could not agree more. The benefits of a concealed weapon outweigh the advertisement of making yourself a target. I think of those "extroverts" the same as I do the knuckleheads with extended swing arms, flying up the road in shorts, wife beater T-shirts, and flip-flops without a helmet as "organ donors". Who said there isn't a grand plan for weeding out the shallow end of the gene pool?
