The BMW Museum
« on: June 12, 2015, 09:45:28 PM »
I spent the week in Munich.  Had a chance to see the BMW museum.  I walked around the motorcycle exhibits for about 3 hours, almost completely ignored the cars, but the bikes, yeah I loved looking at the old bikes.

Don't have any photos available right now, but calling the carbs on their oldest bike primitive, would be an understatement.

It was a fun time, and I loved the city as well - reminded me of home so much I almost forgot I was in Europe, except I had to carry about 10 lbs of coins in my pockets to pay for anything.

I assume when you say you have no pics right now, you are implying there will be pics up later. I will wait. :)

Man, I've been to Munich and I didn't even know they had a BMW Museum there? Oh, and you must have had 4.53592 Kilograms of coins in your pockets mate, Europe is way more advanced than the US of A........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'll add what I have, I'm not a shutterbug, so I didn't take too many pictures really.  The museum is attached to their tower next to the Olympic Village and park.  I also toured BMW world, which is right next door - but they were under construction and there wasn't much open when I was there.  Besides, BMW world is little more than a glorified sales showroom.  For that matter, the BMW museum was straddling the line between museum and sale brochure - but what can I expect, it was hosted by BMW and they are trying to sell cars.  Actually, there was one car  that I absolutely loved - an '88 Z1.  The doors were drop down, they didn't swing up, swing out, they dropped into the body of the car to open.

That last pic is of one of their concept bikes.  Kind of pedestrian design really, but there are a couple of things I like about it - the seat and the taillight.  The seat has a groove in it much like bicycle seats - so you can actually sit on it for extended periods.  The taillight is an illuminated plastic strip - I think gives it a cleaner look and makes it more visible.  There's no diffusion of the light to lessen the brightness

The museum is the fishbowl structure next to the tower in case you're wondering

That's no problem.  I'm just sorry I didn't get more shots.  I rarely think of taking photos, more content to just look and remember.

They were doing a thing about the Mini on that spiral.

Not into Mini's, so I passed on it.

Thanks for posting those pics mate, that concept bike is interesting, is that a sports bike with their 6 cylinder power plant? If so, I want one! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Interesting tidbit.

On the day I was touring the BMW museum, I was wearing my Honda Wing T-shirt. ;D
