Would you wear this?????
« on: October 21, 2006, 12:28:33 AM »
Saw this video and thought it was interesting.  Kinda have to wonder, tho, what about the rest of the body?

looks like she landed on her tits - that must have hurt - and the gravel rash would not have been fun either - just goes to show, being a show pony has lots of dangers for others - not necessarily those you think too much about obviously.

I'm out riding today. There are lots of Chinese 50 cc scooter things aroung these days. The first one I see, the rider is in bare feet wearing a singlet, no gloves....So if you'r going to throw your girlfriend off the back of your crotch-rocket at least make sure she is kitted out....FGS (for Gods' sake)...

About half the time when wearing my electric vest I forget to unplug it when getting off the bike.  If I had one of those I'd probably go thru a lot of CO2 cartridges.

That's one of the things I was thinking would be a problem.  The other big problem is:  though your torso is protected, what about the flailing arms and legs?  I guess you could at least survive with one of those vests....

Didn't watch the whole thing, but I like the part where he says "If you haven't fallen, you haven't ridden".  What the hell have I been doing for the last 12 years when I thought I was riding, then? :-\ ;D

I'd say you've been doing pretty good without a spill for 12 years!  Ride on!

Well, okay.  I did drop it once on a gravel driveway while backing out of the garage, but I don't really consider that "going down".

Nah, doesn't count if you're backing up  ;)

The most fatal injuries we see are head and torso.  Although major complications and death *can* occur from extremity injuries; it's the head and torso where most of the deadly stuff happens.

Wasn't thinking of fatalities resulting from injuries to the extremities, but the loss thereof :o
I have noticed that in alot of crash videos (and my own spills riding trails) that most of the impact would be concentrated on the torsal area (I've usually ended up on my back first thing).

Good info to know, though.

Incidently, what time of year have you found to be the busiest as far as crashes and such?  Most stats point to winter, just wondering.

I like it...would need plenty of spare Co2 bottles though. Most of the commedians I ride with would be "pulling my chain" every chance they got...

oh man... that really could get ridiculous as soon as they found out it was inflatable  ;D

i'd probably wear one but, i doubt i'll go right out and buy one.

hey medic don't forget the compounded injuries... many people die not particularly from head or torso wounds but, multiple injuries.  say you've got a head wound that many people would pull through but if you've also got a gash here and there and maybe a broken bone or two it can become increasingly more life threatening.
there is actually a fairly formula for this... anyone know it?  i can't remember the actual numbers.
