Topic: Chain question - fitting a clip link with press-fit tool

i got my spare clip masterlink from DK yesterday (fast shipping - thanks Jeff!) and installing today on my new RK 530 RX-chain. I also got the press-fit tool from DK for this job. Its taking a lot of force to get the side plate pushed down far enough so I can get the spring clip on -my question is, does it take a LOT of force to get this on and should I be able to see a GROOVE on the two posts for the spring clip to slide into? I dont see it quite yet and Im using a lot of force already...any thoughts/advice?

It shouldn't take a huge amount of force, assuming that the clip link mounting is the right size for the chain. Assuming it's an O-ring chain make sure you are not trying to jam the rollers through the push-on o-rings that come with the package. When I did Sophie's chain I used a pair of square ended pliers to squeeze the link through so that the two grooves were visible, then the same pliers to snap the retainer in to place.

Remember to put the closed end of the clip to the direction of travel of the chain! On the top run of the chain it will face closed end forward; on the bottom towards the back.
