Topic: Who's fitted a Vetter to a CB750

Gday how's it going
When you put the fairing on what do you do with the electric conectors that are currently in the headlight buctet.
Also do the fork ears stay on.

Just trying to guess how long it takes to decide if I'll do it or not.

I have taken a ton off. On a 750 the fork ears can stay on. Unfortunately most people back then removed the headlight bucket but think it can stay on. With the bulb and frame removed the wires from a fairing plug in pigtail that are the spliced into the appropriate wires with plastic connectors. I have noticed a lot of my projects also came with handlebar setbacks also so there may be some clearance issues also.

Scott,

The electrical connectors stay in the headlight bucket.
The headlight bucket stays and fork ears stay in place as well.
Vetter provided a rubberish plastic cover for the bucket to keep everything dry and out of the weather.
As ekpent said, many people (myself included) have handlebar setbacks, since you aren't subject to the wind buffeting.
The setbacks are about 2 or 3 inches long, just enough to make the riding position (for me) very, very comfortable.
The setbacks do not require any modifications to any wiring, at least on my bike.
I've had a Vetter on my 750 K6 for 39 years.

 In the day a lot of guys used scotchlock wiring splices. They are quick and work well for a while. When they get old the connection can get sketchy. The cable from the headlight bucket moves a lot causing the connectors to wear too. I'd tie the cable  down somewhere to reduce the movement on the connections.
 I have the proper Honda connectors today I'd plug into the honda harness with bullet connectors so it can go back to stock anytime.

 Somebody save me a nice vetter windshield if you're throwing them away.

I only ride long distance (over 200,000 miles on my Honda alone)--if not extremely long distance (San Diego-NE PA and back as one tour, all over Europe, Sahara Desert). I drive passes in the Alps and Dolomites in the  wintertime at temperatures well below freezing.
I never restored my Honda. There was no need to (original owner).
The Vetter fairing is the most ugliest thing I have ever seen. It makes any CB750 look like crap. Good thing that we all have a different taste, but let's not draw any other conclusions from that.

Plenty of people do serious riding without a full fairing.  Andy in Boston is a good example.  I've had the Windjammer SS on my 750 since the winter of 1977, so obviously I like them and don't think the later ones look bad either.  Windjammers are like abortion, Ford or Chevy, or whether or not Hillary ought to be president.  People have their minds made up about it. Arguing about it to convince them otherwise is somewhat of a waste of time, unless of course you consider the entertainment value.

 I didn't mean to hijack or start an oil or pods thread, just my own personal reasons. My low mile restoration 750 K0, I'd never put one on. Ever.  My high mile, wear it out on the road ride it everywhere goldwing heck yes.
 I agree there are some hardcore CB riders and some amazing bikes here, you all have my respect.
 PS, I'm old and remember when there were thousands of them.

There were 2 sizes.  8 inch and 7 inch.  There was no 7.75 inch to my knowledge.

 I think the Vesco fairings are awesome, I'd love to find one somewhere. There was a company making a similar looking one, not sure if they still do.

G'day Wobly, how's it going
The longest I've done in a day on my CB750 is 12hrs and only 600 or 700km in that day.  Man I'd love to ride it for a few weeks or a month and do some long trips.

Where do you live mate.  I'd love to know where would be a cool place to ride this time of year.

 Because this time next year we (the family) are probably going to go the States and drive around doing the kids stuff  I might stay longer and ride around doing the Dad stuff

The longest I ever drove, only stopping for gas, was from Barcelona (after arriving with the ferry from Ibiza) to West Berlin. I left in the evening and arrived the next afternoon, more than a 1,000 miles later. My travel days are still 12-13 hours, but longer if needed. I take at least one long trip per month.
I am currently stationed at the U.S. Army Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany--with no desire to ever return to the States (just been on home leave in San Diego--what a waste of my time). I found motorcycle heaven in the Alps and Dolomites--not too far away from where I am. It's not just the breathtaking landscape but also the ferry-tail like towns and villages and the awesome people. Everywhere you see signs "Bikers/Motorcycles Welcome".
To entice you, check out the book by another San Diegan, John Hermann, titled "Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps and Beyond." Unfortunately, it's a long ways away from Australia. But if you ever consider coming here, send me a PM. If you are on Facebook, send me a PM because you can follow my travels there. I know the Alps/Dolomites extremely well, and there is always room in my house and garage for a fellow CB enthusiast.  Riding a motorcycle in Europe is an entirely different experience than riding in the States. I can see why a full fairing, or riding a Goldwing, makes sense in the States. Here, every other motorcycle used for long distance travel seems to be a GS BMW (which is so ugly to me). I always preferred the low riding position for travel. Unfortunately, I never had the privilege to travel in Australia.

I may have missed my chance for now to ride in Europe.  Maybe in 6 or 7 years the missus and myself my take a look for a few months.

Her and the girls went over last year for about 5 weeks and I stayed home to go for a ride for a similar time.

A few things happened and I ended up staying in Sydney and not ridding anywhere.

Hey man if you ever want to ride a bike in Australia I can lend you one and show you a few places before you head off on your own. You probably have the same rules as here.  "If you fu_k it you fix it"
Apart from that just have fun.

I have a CB750 that I use all the time and one that is almost on the road, That one will be only be used with conditional rego which means you shouldn't use it as much as a fully registered bike. That one will be able to be lent out.

Think I might look that book up at some stage. Might get me to pull my finger out

Just left Austria (Zell am Zee) going to Caorle in north Italy at Adriatic Sea. Zell am Zee was very fun then, we should have stayed 5 days more. I had just got nice contact with a really 6:y chick with plenty of right stuff in the right places!! My friends wanted to leave 

At the return we stayed some days just outside Kitzbühel, Pension Andreas Aurach bei Kitzbühel. Very nice small hotell to visit a few days when passing by. The road passing by Cortina was really nice. This is 30 years ago so something might have changed.

A few years later I visited Andorra. Nice motorcycle road from south France entering the Pyrenees. We stayed at a Hotel in Andorra la Vella with a swimming pool on top of the roof. Fantastic views from poolside and the surrounding mountains with white peaks in summertime (July). This was then a huge taxfree zone with Alcohole and tobaccor for really low prices. Ray Ban sunglasses for half price.
I guess it might have changed since 1988 
Continued to Spain, Tarragona to swim a little. So many nice Spanish chicks!

I'll be down there with the Honda next week again. You should join me sometime to refresh your memories. 30 years later, however, no sexy women will look at us--unless we pull in our stomachs and keep the tinted visors down. That's okay: if we take the Hondas, we already have beautiful company.
In November, I will take the Honda to Rota, Spain, where we have a Naval Base. Temperatures will be perfect down there at that time. I used to take the Honda to Spain and Portugal a lot because the weather down there is great. When I toured the Route 66, back when I was stationed in the Mojave Desert for three years, I could not complain much about rain there either but the summers were too hot for my taste.
