Powderman,

WOW, you've got enough projects there to keep many of us working forever. :) :) :)

And they are SWEEEEETTTTTT!

Charlie

Those are the sweet ones. My brother collected these over 30 years and never really got started assembling any of them. There is also a 1954 5 window Chevy P/U, a 65 Corsair with a Toronado V8, an Alfa Guilia, BMW 540i, 75 Moto Guzzi Calif.II, 69 Triumph Tiger 650, and of course the Sand cast Cb750.

Powderman,

If I could talk the wife into it, I'd be asking if you have a spot to park my RV.

I'd love to help with those projects!

It is not a Renault Alpine, that was different car than this. Alpine was a company at first making the GT4, Renault bought them out in the early 70's to build the Renault Alpine A 110 that cleaned up in rally racing back then. While the GT4 did use many rRenault parts it was not manufactured under the Renault name.

Yes, I know Alpine was an independent company , they are all regularly referred to as "Renault Alpine" simply because they use Renault engines, amongst other parts.   ;)

The GT4 was not regularly referred to as the Renault model like the bottom pictured A110. Some of them ran Gordini engines.

The GT4 is one of only 2 in the states and the other is also in Palmdale owned by by brothers friend who will take this off my hands right away if I let it go. it was a running registered titled car when my bro bought it.

I didn't mean it was referred to as the "Renault model", I meant generally, people associated the Alpine with Renault because of their close association..  I've seen the Renault Alpine A110 sell at auction for around $110,000, wonder what yours is worth.. ;)

Waiting on parts to arrive.  Everything was supposed to get here Thursday, will be lucky if they make it at all.  Damn usps.

Just received some new carb boots from an eBayer in Japan, shipped very quick.

Dropping everything off to be blasted and powdercoated satin black.  Two week turnaround time, so maybe I can start lacing up the rear wheel and painting the engine.  Once the bike is done, work will begin on restoring my dad's '79 KZ1000 LTD...or maybe the CA77.

What are you painting the motor? I'm thinking to paint my cylinder case and oil pan black and restore everything else to stock. How difficult is it to lace a wheel? Seems like something I shouldn't try.

Alek,

Here are 3 threads on Lacing a Wheel.  It's actually very easy.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=368  - This thread gives a real nice step by step but is missing one key step.  Figuring out the offset.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,146766.msg1670479.html#msg1670479 -  Read reply 6 and look at/print out the picture.  THis is the missing step in every wheel lacing thread I've read.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=135846.0 - This one gives more info on certain parts of the lacing procedure.  But still doesn't include the "missing Step"  LOL

It shouldn't take more than 20 - 30 minutes to re-lace a wheel after reading these threads.

Hope this helps.

Charlie

Thanks, I've look in to it and then I saw you have to true the wheel and it looked complicated etc.. I dunno I will take another look at. Ordering rims and spokes from Buchanans is the last thing I will do on my build. I'll take a look a these links later.

I'm going to try and find some VHT paint and primer that will be close to the original paint.  All my parts have arrived, pics to come later today.  Going to install the new trans and seal up the motor Saturday or Sunday.

*Update*

It was a very busy weekend.  Got the components I needed from the new trans installed and sealed up the motor and installed all the shift linkage.  Still need to get a new clutch lifter plate.

Pulled the triple tree bottom off, had to beat it to get it off of there.  Wondering if the 750F fork tube I have will interchange.

Got most of the small stuff blasted and dropped off everything, including the frame, for powdercoat yesterday.  After seeing how good my buddy's engine guard came out, I decided to go gloss black.  Had to remove the vin tag.  They bake everything at 750 Fahrenheit to get any petroleum based solvents out of the pores, then prep for powdercoat.

Took good pics of the rear wheel, then just cut off the old spokes.  I have so many extra new ones it's not worth keeping the old.

Here you can see 2nd gear.  I don't think I have to tell you guys which one was the bad one.  I decided to thoroughly inspect the shift drum before reassembly.  Glad I did, the peak for 2nd gear was pretty worn.

Put the engine in my parts washer and cleaned with mineral spirits.  Came out pretty good.

I've started to prepare for painting the tank and side covers.  I found a correct early style tank in the attic and stripped it, ready for primer.  I'm going to have it painted like a a K2-Candy Apple Red.

Anybody know if $175 is a fair price to strip and powdercoat the frame?

Got a brand new seat and all turn signals and hardware as a college graduation present.  Also got a new rear rim and spoke kit.

Parts on order:

Carb Intake Boots
Bronze Swingarm Bushings
Steering Neck Taper Roller Bearings
Complete Gasket Set
Headlight and Trim Ring
Handlebars
New Handlebars Switches (both sides)
Starter Motor Cover
Clutch Chrome Cover
Front and Rear Wheel Bearings
a few bits of original Honda chrome hardware

and a bunch of odds and ends...not to mention what I already have on-hand.

Just curious, where are you getting the parts from?
