CB750K3 Ignition switch mounting
« on: November 23, 2006, 08:02:02 PM »
My "new" CB750K3 had the ignition switch bolted to the handlebar clamps. It offends my eyes in this position and I decided to move it back, assuming the bracket the switch was on would easily be bolted on in the stock location under the front of the gas tank. But lo and behold, I took off the tank and there is no bracket or hole or anything on the frame to mount the switch bracket onto. So my questions are: How does this thing normally go on? Maybe my bracket has broken off? What am I looking for? It looks like it should bolt to a small bracket with a single bolthole with a welded-on nut, or maybe the silver bracket the ignition switch is presently attached to has simply broken off the frame.

There is an L bracket that acts as a clamp. It's a piece of cake. Here's a pic. As a memebr here clued me in, the bracket has exactly 1.75" of space between the weld and the front edge of the bracket. Try eBay and you'll find one soon. If not, let me know and I've got one already powdercoated I was saving.

Forget the funny looking frame tubes - that's a different story altogether.

Regards,
Gordon

Thanks for the perfect pic, Gordon. The clamping part of my bracket is broken off, leaving only one hole. The picture explains why there is no sign of anything on the frame. I'll look into getting a new one. I'd be happy to purchase your spare; maybe I can just order it from my local Honda dealer. Your frame tubes look very different from my bike, I am intrigued. Wow! This is a great forum! I read your post about the location of the switch bracket earlier tonight when I searched for the topic of ignition switch mounting about an hour ago. Thanks again for the quick reply.
