When Britain refused to import US beef because of the steroids it contained, the US govt. retaliated by banning Triumph motorcycles??? :o :o ::).
I dont think there were any Triumph dealers at the time so it was a token gesture.(unless someone knows different?)

Marmite isn't really the same thing as Vegemite.... Marmite is shiny and more fluid in consistency and with a slightly stronger flavour. Vegemite is matt and lighter brown (and at the risk of starting a riot) a poor imitation..... ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) (only kidding Aussies!!)

Here's and excerpt from the FAQ's of www.ilovemarmite.com that tells you everything you didn't want to know about things that are not marmite!!!

 What are Vegemite, Promite, Bovril and Yeast Extract?

Answer: They are not Marmite in any way, shape or form.

Vegemite, is an Australian product, manufactured by Kraft Foods Ltd, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and is generally described by Marmite fans as a weaker version spread than British-produced Marmite. Vegemite fans have claimed that it is stronger than some non British-produced Marmite, but that doesn't say much for that "Marmite".

Its ingredients are:

    * Yeast Extract
    * Salt
    * Caramel
    * Malt Extract
    * Natural Flavor

Promite is a vegetable extract spread, and is made by Master Foods of Australia.

They say that; "PROMITE Spread is a vegetable and yeast extract which is a delicious spread on toast or bread. PROMITE Spread can also be used in soups, casseroles or gravy for added flavour. Simply add to hot water for a delicious, nutritious hot drink. It has a smooth texture with a unique taste which all the family will love. The taste is slightly sweeter than other yeast spreads."

Its ingredients are:

    * Vegetable Protein Extract
    * Yeast
    * Sugar
    * Caramel
    * Thickener (wheat starch)
    * Salt
    * Spices
    * Added Vitamins
    * Water Added

Bovril used to be extract of cow ;-), but has been re-formulated to make it a vegetarian product. Its main use is as a flavoring for soups, gravy and as a drink when you put a teaspoon of the stuff in a mug of boiling water. Very warming on a cold winter night.

It, like Marmite, is also produced by Unilever Bestfoods UK.

In Britain, most major supermarket chains sell an own-brand "Yeast Extract", which is the most similar (ingredients-wise) non-Marmite spread you can buy. It is generally a lot cheaper than the real thing, but not for the purists.

You are clearly a newcomer. Vegemite is very famous among the GHOF of the forum. It had generated many threads, discussions and laughs too.

If I had some guns to sell I could meet you at the 7-11 for the deal.
Pay no attention to the Aussie gun hating talk, they are really just

Don't underestimate the Red Rider BB guns. A little 3-in-1 oil down the barrel and it becomes a magnum.

Just some experimentation from my misspent youth.  ::)

In Massachusetts, unregistered ownership of a BB gun is subject to the state's mandatory year in jail for illegal firearm possession.  And why???

"You'll shoot your eye out!"

On the brighter side of things, a town somewhere in the southland -- where men are free and guns are purchased at the 7-11 -- voted to require all residents to keep a firearm in the house.

Ya gotta love variety.

tofu is better for you than meat so shouldn't we ban meat ???
Better for one based upon which criteria? If it's so that one can live longer, thereby continuing to consume ever greater quantities of resources while simultaneously reducing output of beneficial activity, I wonder for whom that is better? If it's because it is more nutritious, it seems unlikely based on the principal that meat is perhaps one of the most calorie dense and nutrient rich foods available, not allowing for the fact of heart disease. But then if you don't keel over from a heart attack at age 56 like you are supposed to, see line two. If its because of the facts surrounding commercial meat farming, be it bovine, porcine or avian, I'm not sure if I'd rather have a turd in my drinking water as opposed to malathion or 2-4-d. Commercial plant farming is every bit as detrimental to the environment as confinement farming, with soil erosion, pesticide runoff and the like. And I'm sorry, but, natural farming practices have never been able to keep up with modern farming methods. Let's go natural and pick who starves first. Won't be me, because I'm heavily armed. If it's because we should love animals and respect their rights , I say this; Animals have rights. They have the right to garlic and butter and 7 minutes a side over a gas flame. How 'bout this; you eat yer' beans and I'll have a bratwurst, that way we won't have to fight over the last piece. Besides, I'll take the smell of a chili dog fart over tofu gas any day. ;D
   p.s. what does a Vegemite fart smell like anyway?

Who ever said to ban meat must like to eat tofuy out of Terry's condoms. :-\ Probably like the extra flavor. :-* I'll eat raw hamberger pound for pound with anyone that eats tofu. Yes that is a challenge. 8)

Hey, thanks for the tip on the red rider bb magnum :)

Didn't Vermont almost pass a mandatory gun ownership thing?
seems I heard that somewhere up there they had this on the ballot.
Good idea I thought :)

Ummmm, banning Vegamite.  That's a joke, right?  If not there are a couple people in my town that are going to be pretty upset.

Come over here and pull my finger mate, and you'll find out, ha ha! Hey how about posting a bigger pic of that bike in your avatar? it looks very tasty, indeed! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sing it boyos:

      We're hap-py lit-tle veg-e-mites
      as bright as bright can be,
      we all en-joy our Ve-ge-mite
      for break-fast, lunch, and tea
      our mum-mies say we're grow-ing stron-ger
      eve-ry sin-gle week
      be-cause we love our Ve-ge-mite
      we all a-dore our Ve-ge-mite
      it puts a rose in eve-ry cheek

Ya gotta admit that it's better than singing "I'd like to be an Oscar Meyer Weiner."

Hey, haven't you guys/gals in USA got Bovril? Just wondering because I see it all the time and someone explained what it is in this thread.
I'm gonna have to lokk for some vegemite now. I should be able to find some, does it have a shelf life?

Bovril?  No, we have Advil, but I gotta check that stuff out.  It looks like beef in a jar.  As a certified carnivore, I'd have to try something that was originally named "Johnston's Fluid Beef."

p.s. we got Advil too (liquid-jels are fast!).  :-\
