Actually, the Germans invented cold beer. Well alright, it was the Dutch, or the Czechs, I don't remember. Lager, my good friends, is beer that is fermented at a temperature of 50 degrees F. or less using a specific strain (or strains ) of yeast. Ales, which our pasty white limey friends are fond of, are generally fermented at a temperature of 60 degrees F. of slightly warmer. And while it is true that many British pubs dispense their wares at cellar temperature, a British cellar is generally 50 degrees f. or there abouts. Not exactly warm. We Americans drink our beer ice cold because that is the temperature it is brewed at and therefore also consumed at. That, and the fact that most American style pilsners taste like piss; I for one would prefer all my drinkin' piss to be as cold as possible.
