'81 CB650C air box cover screw stuck
« on: June 15, 2015, 06:51:56 AM »
Hey guys I tried to take my air box cover off to service the filter and one of them is stuck in the threaded insert that is embedded in the plastic air box. The screw and the insert just spin in the plastic. I can swivel the cover open to access the filter. I want to know if this has happened to anyone else, and what did you do?

Yeah! That method that one guy suggested worked like a charm! I cant believe how simple that was! The screw came right out the first time! Man, I should have thought of this days ago!

As I said, I could swivel the cover to service the filter. So this only works if you can get to the back side of the brass insert. What I did was take one of the free air box screws and put a nut on it. Then, i screwed it into the backside of the insert until it touched the stuck screw. I backed it out half a turn then tightened the nut against the insert. using two wrenches, one on each of the screw heads, I turned the stuck screw right out! used the wrenches to remove the back screw and jam-nut. I pu a little lube on the screws before I reinstalled them to prevent sticking in the future.
