Starting on a rebuild
« on: April 05, 2005, 07:08:15 PM »
Hello all, looking for some tips from some of you folks who have been through all of this before.

I am working on a rebuild of a 78k that my cruel friend let sit uncovered and unprotected for 13 years in his driveway(we live in Canada so it spent half of those year tank deep in snow!). Needless to say I have a long road in front of me. Tons of little things and numerous large ones that need to be done. I am sort of looking at this as a cheap education so am not worried about returning to mint/stock condition. Bob Wessner has already helped with the Master Cylinder rebuild (although I am still fighting with that damn circlip!!!).

My latest question is for a good source for parts. I have no trouble finding the biggies i.e. seat and tank cleaners etc. but there is a lot of little things such as rubber tank mounts that are shot that I am trying to find. Do any of you know of a decent source for all of these little parts. Don't care if they are OEM or not...just in decent shape at a decent price (should point out that I'm not a big EBAY fan due to the shipping and wait times).

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as well as tips for what to look out for would be appreciated...

Thanks and I will try to keep y'all in the loop as to my progress...

hey, 78K,  Service Honda is a good source for parts.  They are typically 15 - 20% below other Honda dealerships.

For new parts, these are some of the best sources:

davidsilverspares.com
servicehonda.com (as mentioned above, and you'll need the part numbers)
crc2onlinecatalog.com
loudfastugly.com
denniskirk.com

For used parts, if you can't find it at the local scrapyard or from somebody in this group, then eBay is about your only option.  For what it's worth, I only bid on items when the shipping is listed up front.  That way I can figure that into the total price I'm willing to pay and I don't end up spending more than I wanted to.

I've used Service Honda a number of times with good luck. You do need the part number to do the look-up and even if they say they have the part in stock, as apposed to discontinued, they may not and you won't find out until your shipment arrives. By an large, pretty good service, ships pretty fast and saves mileage costs back and forth to my local Honda dealer.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

davidsilverspares.co.uk is a great source for parts. I've also used servicehonda.com. The difference from what I could tell is that davidsilver has in stock what they list, while servicehonda lists what they can get...leading to frustrating waits for parts to arrive. Good luck...
