CB750 Clutch cover bolts
« on: June 22, 2015, 09:54:23 AM »
I had the intention to rebuild my clutch over the weekend but ended up stripping several screws .  Can someone tell me the length, quantity and style of bolts to replace them with?  House of Honda lists two part numbers, but I'd rather run to the hardware store instead of going through Honda.

Might be nice to know the year and model of your 750? Many are 6mmx16mm oval head screws. You could use a variety of recessed pan heads, oval head pan, or stock type pan head phillips.

When looking for hardware sizes on my bike, I went to bikebandit.com and pulled up parts diagram for what I needed. In the list below the picture, it lists size of thread and length, and type (bolt, pan screw, etc.) check that out

If you check here you'll find 10 screws in total. Same lenght in all models I guess, except for Sandcast that has only 9. (1 less)
http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750-four-k4-usa_model482/partslist/E++08.html#results
7 pcs 6x28mm
3 pcs 6x35mm

A few mm longer will work too.

Did you strip the screws (not likely) or the holes (more likely). While resh screws would be nice, you mamy be looking at putting an thread insert device in the holes. Like keen-sert or helicoil.

The screw length themselves can be found on a microfish parts page of any on line dealer vender. Like motogrid.com or cmsnl.com

Around here the hardwares stock metric in multiples of 5mm and often case screws are like 37mm or 23mm. Too long or too short.

Buddy, you gotta move! C'mon down, we have room for good-natured Motorcycle fans with plenty of short metric screws available for you  :)

Seriously though, in 3, 4, 5, & 6mm, its quite common to find 12 and 16mm lengths as they are about the only size that uses the shorter length shanks.

I'm packing right now, got room for the wife and a small dog?   ;)

Actually, it just occurred to me that I haven't bought std metric hardware in years. I always buy chrome, for my chrome whore of a bike, and they are in the 5mm increments. I buy long and cut them down.

Happy to have you, your wife and a small dog. Mine (dog) recently went missing and a member (who will remain nameless) won't return him now that he's found him...  >:(

M6x30, M6x35 will work fine. http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2_ScrewBolt_SHCap_M6.html
I checked my bolts in my K6. 25mm vs 35 mm lenghts. No problem. Allen heads in mine.
I'll check for 30mm versions to make life easier for the threads now have 25mm.
There are complete sets to buy.

The screw heads are stripped. Threads seem to be fine on the ones that came out.

Bike is a K3.  By style I meant material. Don't know if certain metals will disagree with each other if I get the wrong material.  Previous owner had one Allen bolt and the rest had phillips head.
