Spark Advancer shaft...
« on: June 23, 2015, 06:34:41 AM »
Hello all! Long time reader first time poster. (Mr. Obvious joke...) Anyways, I had a question that I'm sure some experienced people might be able to help me with. I sheared the threaded area of my spark advancer shaft off the other day. Does anyone know if these are pressed in or can be replaced without having to replace the crank?? Thanks for the help guys!

Welcome. The "C" in "SOHC" doesn't stand for clairvoyance. What bike model and year are working on?

Double nut the end and turn it out.  Counterclockwise.
If it's not bent, reuse it with a new oring.

That's the part. It screws into the crankshaft. Grab it tight with vise-grips and unscrew it. Buy a new one, too!

...and stop using that bolt to rotate your crank. If you must use it, remove the spark plugs. The other end of the crank, under the stator cover is a much safer bolt to lay the pressure on.

Thanks for the help everyone. So I have been looking on every site I can think of for a new advancer shaft and so far the closest thing I can find is an entire crankshaft on Ebay... Does anyone have any favorite sites that they use that could possibly sell just the shaft?? Thanks again.

Call your local honda dealer. Should be available.

You can also order from the site I linked above.
