Measure oil pump side clearance with Plastigage
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:52:53 PM »
Well today while going through the service manuals procedure for inspecting the oil pump i found myself short a depth micrometer to do the side clearance measurements. I wanted to know that things were in spec so after scratching my head for a few minutes i went for the plastigage.  I laid 2 pieces on the outside of both rotors and assembled the pump and tightened the screws down. after i took it apart and inspected. The measurement came out to 0.0020" limit is 0.0047" Seems like a easy cheap way to measure the side clearance without a depth micrometer

What about using a feeler gauge?
